New fic: Ex Post Facto (SGA)

I came up with the idea for this story during the sga_flashfic "Earthside" challenge, but then I thought "Nah...."

Which goes to show that in this fandom, you should always write your flashfic ideas before the show writers get to it first. (You hear that,

Really, really quite awesome. It's very cool to look at John from his ex-wife's perspective, and the fact that he would go to see her while they're on Earth is really appropriate, and totally believable. I love how you did it to, made them not hate each other, but also not be still in love. And his acceptance of her life is very nice. The watch thing, and her comment about his father, though, were my favorite bits. You packed a ton of really well thought out, character building details in such a short space, and you make it seem very natural, like this is really what goes through her head when she sees him. Excellent job.

Thanks! The watch and the stuff about his dad, not the failed marriage, were the things that were hardest not to go over the top emotionally on, because they're the things that are still closest to John's heart. So I'm especially glad that they worked for you. Yay! Thank you so much for commenting!

Oh, I'm surprised there haven't been MORE of these!

John does look good in "Intruder," doesn't he? The collared shirt suits him.

I really, really like this, especially the implication that Marie and her new husband got together before she and John were really over. And her view of John now, the way we know more than she does.

I'm glad that Marie's backstory came through as well as John's did.

And yes, we do know a lot more about what John's doing these days than she does - as one of my betas pointed out, there's no sci-fi in this story, which there would have to be if this were John's POV....

I liked this a lot. The character sketch you gave us of John's ex-wife and the hints of the history between them worked really well, and her view of John really made the story. She knows both more and less about him than we do, or at least about where he has come from as opposed to where he is now - perhaps she never really knew much about who he is - and that made for a really interesting take on the whole outsider perspective thing. Thanks.

Thank you! "She knows both more and less about him than we do" -- exactly, that's what I was thinking when I revised this, and that's a lovely way of putting it. I'm glad you liked it!
