Arthur having to compile name after name is soul crushing and it's no wonder he has to shut down emotionally to get through day after devastating day. His trip out to Merlin's encampment punctuated how awful his life has become. This exchange was brilliant: "Does it even matter now?"

Arthur had to force himself to answer that question nearly every day. "Yes," he said. "Everything you do from this moment on matters more than anything else you’ve done before."

"Does anyone actually buy that line?" Merin gave a short laugh of disbelief. "Royalty never stops being ridiculous, does it?"

"Wasn’t that why you left me in the first place?" Arthur's resigned to this distance between them, but it still burns. He really has nobody to turn to and when Morgana is assassinated, he's left even more alone. It's making for an emotional, compelling read.

In all the angst and loss, the scene of Merlin showing up with his blood panels was a lovely, light note. Who knew that happiness would be so short lived?

Yes, poor Arthur. It's really hard to imagine what it would be like to live with the burden of that knowledge for so long. I'm glad his pain was compelling reading! *g*

Oh wow, I love what you're doing with this! How it's obviously the story of 2012 but it's being told from a different angle, not just rehashed into something it doesn't fit into. Obviously I hate that Morgana had to die, but I love the parallel with the film! Great story!

So touching! Especially reading how Arthur had to make a list of all the British Citizens who would survive and Merlin's reaction to it all. Of course he'd want to try and save people. And I suppose Arthur is too, in his own way....well those he cares about anyway. I'm pretty certain he'd set out on an expedition to the centre of the earth if he thought that it's help too.... ooo now that'd be another good film to write! *nudge nudge wink wink* lol. But I've not finished this one yet and I'm so looking forward to reading more!

Hee! Yes, the Core would make a fun fic! But writing action is exhausting, so maybe I'll take a break and do a nice romcom or something next round. *g*

And yeah, it's hard for Arthur trying to save people he loves while also being bound by his duty to give the human race its best shot at survival. I don't envy him that one bit. Merlin's got the same dilemma on a different scale, too.

Geh! This story is kinda like crack. (In only good ways. Plus some addictive ones thrown in.)
