I'm really intrigued by the effect you got in Pastel and especially Green - the gang looks like they are indoors with a large wall behind them, and it all looks perfectly natural. How do you do that, get the foreground and background merged so seamlessly? I think you have PS so you probably have filters I don't on ipiccy, but I'm curious nonetheless. (And impressed of course.)
aw, you're so sweet! <3 I do have photoshop. I didn't do it with the green icon, but did with the pastel, is when I choose a background color (after cutting out the original background) I duplicate the layer, move it on top of the subject, create a clipping mask (so it only covers the subject and not the colored background) and either put a multiply or screen overlay on it, then erase the parts I don't want covering the subject. Usually I erase all of it minus the very edges of the subject, which helps it blend into the background. I also usually add textures to the background to give it a gradient look and I believe on the green one I used selective coloring to turn the almost blue color of the car to the green of the icon. hope that wasn't too confusing! idk what ipiccy is, but hope you can do something out of all that :)
Wow thank you for the details! As you guessed most of this is "greek to me" in terms of PS - but my strategy thus far has been to try to figure out "how can I fake this effect or get around not having all those layers?"
ipiccy is a free online program that kwritten told me about, and it just doesn't have the same flexibility or sophistication. But it's faster to learn for someone like me who is only middling tech savvy.

That actually makes a lot of sense. The background on that icon has more subtle depth to it than a flat color would. I probably need to look into using gradients more, I haven't done much with them in the past.

I just plop one on top of my background layer and set it to screen, multiply, or soft light and adjust opacity as needed.
hope you can play around some-what on your program! <3
