Your Dawn and Xander dialog is making my afternoon. As is your Dawn-thought in this chapter which really works for me.

When Dawn thinks about how she wants things to play out with Faith, they’re a lot different than what actually happens: nothing.
and
“It’s just…” Dawn discards ‘lame’ and ‘pathetic’ and goes with, “frustrating.”
“Oh right, ‘cause the course of sex and romance always runs so smooth. Wanna see the scars that prove it?”

And the way Dawn acknowledges it's potentially kinda weird discussing Faith with Xander.
Dawn leans forward. “Different good?”
“Trust me when I say ‘yes’ that it’s emphatic.”
hee

“Her head’s on straight now. And thank god, cause you don’t want to get mixed up with a woman with weird head movement.”
hee!! Xander would know!

This is an awesome image:
There’s something about watching Faith like that that gives Dawn a funny feeling, like she’s just gotten off a roller coaster.
Courage loves roller coasters.

As is this:
Courage tosses Dawn her coat and gloves
hee!

“Okay,” Dawn says, with ( ... )

Oooh! I love all the quotes! :D This was a story that was really fun to write - it definitely was a good one to start with because it got me excited about writing again. And you know I couldn't not have Xander in it! Also, it's so wonderful that you enjoyed it - it's really awesome to write with someone in mind! And yes, courage? Very helpful! Thanks babe! :D

Courage loves roller coasters.

I love the idea that growing up in Sunnydale gives Dawn a reserve of courage that she can draw on here. And, yay, she got the girl!

Merry Christmas; thanks for giving us all a present!

(btw, I initially commented with my RL account by mistake, then deleted -- sorry!)

Oh yay! I'm happy that you liked that Sunnydale gave Dawn the courage she needed - I figure it would have to be such a huge shaping force for the Scoobies.

I hope you had a Merry Christmas - and Happy New Year!!!

Thanks so much! :D

Oh hee, no worries, that happens with 2 journals.

Loved all of it. Dawn's view of Faith was perfect and so was Xander's wise advice.

Loved it. Sweet, very freshing and realistic in places. Especially liked the bond between Xander and Dawn - the way that she was basically able to just go to him and get answers without any beating round the bush or protestations.

Loved it.

I'm so happy that you enjoyed the fic! It's my first time writing more than a drabble of Faith/Dawn, and it was lots of fun to do. It was neat to do that Xander and Dawn scene because I got to explore a lot there. Thanks so much! :D

Dawn feeling triumphant after finishing her room was just the right frame of mind to throw caution to the wind, and using courage as a third party in her pursuit was wonderful.

I loved the excellent Xander voice in this piece, especially this exchange: Besides, she’s different these days.”

Dawn leans forward. “Different good?”

“Trust me when I say ‘yes’ that it’s emphatic.”

This was wonderful: Standing in front of Faith’s door, her good friend courage deserts her. The flight impulse appears, coming on strong, but she just stands there staring at the door, not really seeing it.

When she finally knocks, it’s all thanks to Sunnydale: the place where she learned to ignore the flight and go with fight. She’s carried that with her. It feels right that her time in Sunnydale would build the courage Dawn needs to grab what she wants.

Yes, it makes sense that Dawn feeling triumphant would help with courage (I'm not sure I consciously thought that while writing but it worked out well!). You know how I love writing Xander, so it was fun to have him and Dawn have that exchange - it seemed like they'd have to address what Faith used to be like (and Xander's experience with her).

I really like the idea of Sunnydale being a positive force for Dawn, since it's been such a negative one in many ways.

Thanks so much! :D
