I miss Oz. He'd get it. He wouldn't say anything, but...he'd get it. (btvs 5:18)

Today is the last day that the WB will exist. Tomorrow it and UPN merge to form the CW. I'm mostly excited about this (despite being sad about Everwood and Reba being casualties of the merger), however I am sad about the WB ending. And, I wanted to remind you all that:

As a good-bye, the WB is airing the pilots of its significant shows today ( Read more... )

tv, good-bye wb, dawson's creek, btvs, everwood, smallville, gg, young americans, reba, spn, the cw, ats

I know no one more fit to offer such a tribute to the WB than you. *hugs* Sorry I won't be able to watch. Have fun! :)

Aww, thanks!! I'm watching the goodbye episodes now and am all nostalgic. It's fun to watch the pilots again and see the clips they're airing during commercials - it's too bad the network doesn't air in the UK. *g*

Great overview - though I didn't watch all those shows, I think overall the WB did make a good contribution. I mean, just Buffy & Angel are enough to make me think the world of at least two of their decisions.

It amazes me that people are still bitching at Whedonesque about the fact that the WB still is evil in their eyes for cancelling Angel - forgetting the fact that they almost got rid of it after Season 4, which would have been a very bad decision (because Season 5 was brilliant)!

But no other network at the same time would have given Buffy the chance, let alone given Whedon the freedom to make a parallel spin-off.

I think The CW - combining the relative strengths of the WB and UPN - will be a good thing, though.

Thanks! I agree that the WB made a positive contribution to TV. I understand being unhappy about Angel being cancelled, cause it certainly makes me sad (as does the cancellation of a bunch of other shows I've loved over the years). However, I also get that TV networks are businesses and there's plenty of decisions made entirely for business reasons and not about the quality of a show. Like you, I'm also happy that we got as many seasons as we did - especially season 5!

I think you're right that the WB gave shows that wouldn't have survived on other networks a chance. I feel that because it wasn't one of the bigger networks, the quirkier and riskier shows could flourish on it. (Obviously the shows aren't as risky as ones on HBO.)

I'm hoping that the CW will be a good thing. I'm optimistic about it. *g*

There I was, the proud owner of every Buffy and Angel episode on DVD, stuck in front of the tube for a whole night. Some shows are just so good that they can grab you on the air even when you already own them.

Definitely!! Whenever I turn on the TV and there's a Buffy or Angel episode airing I'll always start watching, even though I have them on DVD. It's so wonderful to have shows that continue to capture our interest after seeing them multiple times. *g*

That also explains why the history channel plays at work all night, every night when I'm working; a repeat on the history channel is more interesting than almost anything else you can find at 2 a.m.!
