Thank you for the screencaps. My DVD will still delay to arrive and for less expectations than I have now because of your reviews, at least the images seem good. By the way, may I add your name to my list of friends, to have access to all your posts?
:\ Hrm, you know, I have a few problems with the movie and how they portray a few things.
Wellll, Bagoas was just a, how do I put this, pleasurer of sorts. He was just like a concubine, except maybe more, you know? I don't think they were in love like the pictures/movie make them seem like. For that era it was normal for people (especially Kings) to have people like Bagoas, and I don't doubt that Hephaestion had one too, so I doubt he'd be bothered. And even if he was, he loved Alexander and only wished for happiness. I just never thought of him as a possessive type.
But my main issue with the movie is just how important they made Bagoas seem (and how unhandsome. Dx I pictured him like... ten times better looking). If I have my facts wrong, and if I do, correct me, when I was reading on Alexander they really only say that he is a 'eunich' that belonged to Darius and now belongs to Alexander... But yeah. I need to read more about it, I just haven't found time, bah.
Nice pictures though, they just got me started on a rant. >_>
Oh, I would not confuse the movie with hsitory. It is NOT history. It is a work of fiction based on smatterings of history. I do agree with you about how "unhandsome" Bagoas looks in certain scenes - like Alexander's death scene or in the after-Cleitus scene, etc. Somehow it does not match historical descriptions of his beauty and especially youthfulness. And yes, the historical Bagoas was a eunuch with whome Darius had a relationship and later Alexander did too. I wish we had some description of him from Persian sources, not just from biased western eyes; he sounds a fascinating individual.
OMG OMG you have pictures shaking can't wright must see pretty pics. You are now my new best friend and i love you kiss Ok maybe a little OTT but YOU HAVE PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! runs around the room screaming.
Yeah, the pics are pretty - because the film is visually beautiful. Rodrigo Prieto also did Brokeback Mountain! And I agree with what you said on your lj, I really dislike the picture the film has painted of Alexander. Forget Bagoas, Hephaistion, Mommy and Daddy; Alexander comes across as someone I want to repeatedly smack on the head!
Oh I wanted to smack the man upsdie the head SO many times in the movie it's not funny. Most noticibly after that talk he and Phai have the night before Gaugamela. -.- You should hear the rants I go on about that scene.
