Happy Mother’s Day

To all my breeder friends, ;P <-- (see winky face)

Happy Mother's Day and to all of those that see their pets as children!!!!

EDIT:  It seems that some people get offended by my term "Breeder". I used it because I was talked to some couples that refer to people that have children as breeders. I meant nothing more.

Wow, Corey, I think you're like the nicest guy ever, and this is like the most ... ick. Wow. Comparing pet owners to parents, just, no.

I have a pet, and I don't have a child, and I'm just squicked. Not to mention having all my "child-free" "friends" making me ambiguous about the word "breeder."

1. This was a very light-hearted post.
2. I dont have any children, but I do have pets.
3. I love my pets as I would a member of my own family. Obviously I would choose a member of my family over my pet if I ever was presented as a choice.
4. The term breeder refers to those that breed, those that are with child or have had children. Which is what this holiday is meant to celebrate. The moment a holiday comes out to honor those people that choose not to or cant have children (or adopt even) I'll gladly put up a post about that.
I'm very sorry that you see my post as offensive. It most certainly is not meant to be.

I didn't say it was offensive. I said it was icky. That's not the same thing. Meant to be as lighthearted, but yet, it just made my stomach do rather a turn.

And I'd think it was cool if there was a Pet Lovers Day. I love my kitty, but it's not a child. Not remotely.

I see that as a difference in dialect so-to-speak. I'm child-free...which is my choice and I don't choose to put the word "parents" sarcastically in quotes when I use it, but I guess that's also my choice. When I use the word "breeder" I am typically referring to someone with questionable parenting skills, but that's only with my other CF friends and aquaintances. And I'm with Corey on this. I have pets, would NEVER have children, and they are as much a part of my family as Snotleigh is to the Smiths next door. Its a difference of opinion but I would never presume to tell someone else how they should or shouldn't feel about their pets or their offspring. Just 2 cents.

No offense taken. Breeders shouldn't go nuclear on you for that! ;-)

Why does everyone think this is about offense? scyllacat May 12 2008, 19:39:17 UTC
This is one of those Politically Correct Arguments. Just like Corey had to make a Politically Correct Mother's Day Statement that didn't exclude those who chose not to parent. I thought it was strange. I compared my mother's sacrifice in my head to the effort it takes to take care of my cat, and, no matter how much I love my cat, I DON'T deserve even a card for it.

I find it kinda funny that the only people who seem to be offend by this aren't parents.

I think of my kitties as my kids, also.

You mean ME, right? since I'm the only one who said anything negative? And I am not the one who used the word "offense." I can't be Offended by someone trying to be nice. I just thought it was a little icky. I certainly wouldn't tell MY mother on mother's day that I thought she was just as good as all the pet owners out there and think that was a compliment.

Actually quite a few people who have pets do think of them in terms of parent/child relationships. It's in the sense of being totally responsible for their care and the love they feel for their pets. I know people who do have children and think of their pets as the additional furry kids ( ... )
