Thoughts on comics

It's been a year now since I first got interested in comics and superheroes and whatnot. And now I want to articulate some thoughts of mine. After reading all twenty-four issues of the current run of Outsiders in one go, something struck me. Comics work infinitely better if I can read an entire storyline together. That's one of the problems I have with comics! Except that the main one is that there's so *much* of them, I don't know where to start. Somehow you find one that you like, and then you have to keep buying them to get the whole story. It's so intimidating and so much effort. (Well, that's how it seems to me.)

I guess you could just wait and buy all the issues in the arc but not read them, and then read them all in one go. But that would mean a lot of waiting.

I mostly buy trade paperbacks, so that helps me. And I hear you on the intimidation and effort, especially when you get characters showing up in more than one title. I resisted because of that very reason for years but eventually broke down. Honestly, I'm amazed my willpower lasted as long as it did. :)

(If you ever want to know about comic characters for fic-reading purposes but don't want to muck about with the mess inherent in reading 40 years of backstory, feel free to ask me. As the above post shows, I can easily ramble on and on, though I don't know everything.)
