I'm of very mixed opinions about casino's coming to Massachusetts. On the one hand I firmly believe that people should be able to do whatever they want with their money. If they want to waste it on the so called "idiot tax" why should I care ( Read more... )

Of course. My point is that this is an addiction that no one thought was worth pursuing until the state needed money.

which i don't get. cause if it got that expensive, wouldn't less people do it? cause they don't have money? or at least do it less cause a pack of cigarettes is now the same price as a meal? (but i know addicts don't work logically)

I am against casinos for a number of reasons, such as the fact that gambling revenues are DOWN historically, so there is no evidence that this WILL bring money to the state, and casinos require a heck of a lot of regulation and enforcement which costs money, besides being an attractant for organized crime.

I am far from convinced that these casinos will make money, and far from convinced that they won't cost money.

So, even if I did believe that there was no moral issue to making these kinds of changes for purely fiduciary reasons (and I DO think that gambling IS a moral issue -- it's one that I personally SUPPORT, but I understand that other people don't, and therefore I think that it is worthy of consideration), I don't think that we have evidence that the fiduciary reasons hold water.
