"To punish and enslave"

I hope everyone's Fourth was good.  As for me, there was nothing too spectacular about the day.  It being the baby's first, I had planned to take her to the parade in downtown Plymouth, but successfully failed to wake up in time.  Still, I did dress her up in the ever-patriotic red, white and blue, which was much fun in and of itself.  We did some ( Read more... )

Totally agreed on Transformers, which might as well have been invented for CGI. Amazing and awesome.

You actually didn't really miss much in not reading Order of the Phoenix, though. (I just got back from the movie.) What you would have known, had you read the book, was the 150 pages of details behind Hermione's line that Death Eaters were "tearing the Ministry of Magic apart." OotP the book was (A) kinda boring, (B) much more about setting a mood than advancing the plot, and (C) hard to follow because it spends so much time hinting that there are Very Important Secrets being kept from Harry, but never actually telling you what any of them are. (Obviously, B and C did a lot to cause A.) But what was awesome was Luna totally stealing the whole fucking movie. Also, I think Alan Rickman was wearing fetish gear under his robes.

But you know what's better than Transformers and Order of the Phoenix combined? Ratatouille. Seriously. Go see it now. (Yes, I've been to the movies a lot this summer.)

So maybe I won't swallow my pride just yet. And Luna was definitely "da bomb."

I'll have to wait for Ratatouille to come out on DVD. I think I maxed out my babysitting credits just getting to see the other two blockbusters. I mean, I never even got to see Spider-Man 3, or POTC3, or Fantastic Four 2. Until Transformers, the last flick I saw was POTC2.

Pathetic, I know.

Pirates 3 was plagued by many of the same problems as Pirates 2 (too long, too much reliance on the novelty of a rum-sodden Johnny Depp not having worn off), except Geoffrey Rush's astounding badassery made up for a lot of it. No great loss waiting 'til DVD there. If you can manage to see Ratatouille in theaters, though, I highly, highly recommend it, because, on top of everything else, the animation is breathtakingly good and should be seen on the highest-quality screen you have access to.

Glad to know I'm not the only voracious reader...I stupidly read the first three Stephen King Gunslinger books back in the day, not realizing that there were supposed to be seven in the series. He took about twelve or fifteen years to come out with the last books, and when he did, they SUCKED!!!!!! The first three were some of the best reads I've EVER had...and the last four were utter shit. So disappointing.

OotP was my least favorite book, but only because of the angst in it. It was all about Harry's feelings and "coming of age", etc...but don't let that stop you from reading all of the books. They are quite good. And now you won't have to wait for the last book :)

I see what you mean. I never would've know it was YA had I not gone searching for the 3rd book online. But maybe I should've been tipped off by the limited use of commas (rather, complex ideas were broken down into separate sentances), or the extreme lack of descriptive violence and anything overtly sexual in nature!

As far as the books go I preferred Order over Goblet. But my personal favorite was Prisoner.

And let me just say, the fact that some guy/gal scanned in Book 7 and has it online through bit torrent and other downloadable sources so that people can read before it comes on at the stroke of midnight on the 21 is appalling!

Not only because, he/she obviously isn't a real fan, but now because I can't read any email, news story, or listen to any radio program from now until I finish the book...which will be about 30 hours after I get the book.

I never thought I'd see the day where I would be against illegally downloading stuff online!
