going postal

May 31, 2005 14:39

I was just thirty-sixth in line at the post office.

Yes, that is correct....there were 35 people in line in front of me. There were 4 windows open. The automated machines (of course) were broken.

And hey, like I had anything better to do than spend an hour at the post office, right?

it was crazy! and when I left there was still a huge line behind me too...

I kept wondering if I was missing some really important date, some kind of crazy mailing deadline that everyone else was aware of but me.

Me? I was just there to buy 2 rolls of stamps for the agency, since I'm the only one with an expense account. fun.

Don't ya love the guys with the 40 boxes to mail? You want some good times...wait in the December 23rd line at the 34th st office. The building is a city block but they only have 3 windows open.

Ah, the day after a holiday. Fun with the USPS.

Right? the joys of the USPS

although with that kind of line, I was expecting more like "day after National Emergency that lasted 3 months and stamps are finally no longer rationed" rather than "long weekend for Memorial Day", you know?
