[Action near 1338 Benny road]

[The Doctor is a man on a mission. These things are going to hurt his family, but he's not about to let that happen. He paces the street, watching for any cannibals that come his way. When he sees one, he grins.]Oi, you! Yes, you. Ugly, with the bad teeth. Suppose you're hungry? Well, I'm right here and rather ( Read more... )

[ She's looking utterly disheveled, but very much alive, which is really all she can ask for at this point. She has been in and out of contact with the Doctor since the metaphorical (literal?) bomb dropped, and now their paths cross yet again and he looks- terrible would be putting it nicely, wouldn't it?

She clears her throat to announce her presence, but otherwise says nothing as she approaches. ]

[He doesn't even respond beyond a twitch at the sound.]

[ She sits down beside him, ever quiet, rests her arms on her knees and leans forward, but rests her gaze squarely on him. It's difficult to see him like this, but she has to. ]

Doctor.

River.

[He mumbles out her name, but still doesn't look at her. If he does, he might not be able to contain himself.]

There's a sorry sight. [the voice that sounds isn't insulting or condescending in the least; just tired. Charles is covered in much less blood than the Doctor, but everything he had been carrying earlier is gone and there's a large gash running from shoulder to shoulder.

he takes a seat next to the Doctor, but keeps more distance than usual.]

I-

[The Doctor raises his head, actually almost feeling a bit of relief at seeing Charles alive but then... it slides off his face as soon as he sees the gash. He quickly moves towards the boy, placing a hand on his shoulder, and inspecting the cut.]

Charles. What happened?

[all things considered, it doesn't look infected yet. he still shies away from the hand.]

I let my guard slip for a moment. [an amateurish mistake that he sounds embarrassed to admit. he then gestures to the blood on the Doctor.]

What happened to you?

[The Doctor ignores the shying, still trying to get a good look at the wound. He looks immensely worried.]

...Nothing.

[And it's partially the truth, his own injuries make up a very small bit of the blood.]

[ It... takes a while for somewhat less bloodstained Rory to join the Doctor. A good while. A don't hold your breath while ( ... )

[The memories of what happened with Rory and the TARDIS are fuzzy. Maybe because he doesn't want to remember it.

He remembers screaming, or perhaps crying, her name. He was sick, he can tell by the burning in his throat and the taste in his mouth, sick at the sight of the horror. And he remembers fighting Rory, trying to get to her and Rory holding him back. He remembers in that moment, hating Rory.

But he knows it's not Rory's fault. He wouldn't have wanted to see Rory being eaten either. So when Rory approaches, the Doctor doesn't glare at him or tell him off. He doesn't say anything at all. He can't think of anything to say.

[ Well, so far so good, or as much as can be said. Rory carefully takes a seat on the porch as well, leaving what he would consider to be an appropriate measure of distance between them- pulls his knees up, wraps his arms around them. He considers putting a hand on the Doctor's shoulder but aborts the movement before it really gets started.

It was another lifetime, but he remembers how it feels to lose someone important enough to be considered part of you, someone you want to protect with your life. It's not really a feeling that magically disappears. The silence stretches for a while. ]

... I'm sorry. [ It's a quiet statement when it comes. Sorry about the TARDIS, sorry about the children, that he couldn't do anything, that all of this is happening. ]

[The Doctor tightens his grip on his knees, pressing his face into the fabric of his pants. He doesn't want to cry or be sick, but he feels like he will be if he opens his mouth. He doesn't want to do either in front of Rory, he already feels pathetic and miserable enough no need for embarrassment either. Eventually, he manages a muffled reply.]

I know.

[Luckily, he isn't very hard to find. The Major isn't exactly hiding himself during this. In fact, he's in the middle of killing a straggling cannibal, one of the "runts" if you will, just dropping the corpse to the ground after he finishes slitting its throat.

The Major's head turns towards the sound of footfalls, and he smiles. Even more when he sees the look on the Doctor's face.]

Having a bad day, my friend?

I've had worse. But that's not to say I'm enjoying this one either.

[He shoves his hands in his pockets, observing the Major.]

No, you wouldn't. It would be difficult for you to comprehend the beauty of it, I suppose.

[He kicks the corpse a bit, nudging it out of his way as he starts to walk forward.]

You look like a man with a mission! Looking for someone?

Yeah, I am.

[Wow Major, even you attacking cannibals is somehow really displeasing!]

Someone injured one of my friends. Know anything about that?
