Piper stared at all the baking contents all over the Echolls kitchen. There was all sorts of equipment and ingredients all over.
"Wedding cakes," she said to the other occupant of the kitchen. "We can handle this."
Isabel
"Oh absolutely," Isabel agreed, not that she'd ever done anything like this. "It'll be easy."
Piper
"Piece of cake," Piper smirked. Yeah, she knew that joke was lame.
Isabel
Isabel debated throwing a handful of flour at Piper but decide one food fight at Logan's home was enough. "Oh that was bad."
Piper
"Yeah, I know," Piper snickered. "Sorry about that."
Isabel
"I bet," she laughed. "So where do we start first? Mixing up cake batter?"
Piper
"Seems like an excellent place to start," Piper said, reaching for a bowl. "I can't believe I'm actually helping bake a wedding cake."
This was a first for her.
Isabel
"Why not? You're a good cook. Which means you're in charge and I'm just the kitchen minion," Isabel told her. "So tell me what to do."
Piper
Piper grinned. "I've been told I'm good at bossing people around."
Isabel
"Max and Michael have said the same about me around Christmas time," she grinned. "Just because I need their help decorating. I don't get it."
Piper
Piper laughed. "Family is the most fun to boss around, I say. At least they are put to work, right?"
Isabel
"Certain kinds of work," Isabel nodded. "Mostly of the lifting and carrying kind. But if I start getting crafty, they flee."
Piper
"It's time's like that I wished I had at least one brother," Piper snickered. "But hey, now I have sons."
Isabel
Which was a topic guaranteed to make Isabel smile, especially after Monday night's date. "And very useful ones at that. Wyatt promised to help me move out to Vegas next week when it's time for orientation at school."
Piper
"Such a gentleman," Piper remarked, smiling as she said it. "Have I mentioned how glad I am things are working out with you, too?"
She genuinely meant every word she said.
Isabel
"My very own gallant knight," she smiled. "Even though I've managed to slay most of my own dragons. But he did save me from a really nasty giant spider once when I was stuck in the floor."
Isabel nodded, appreciating the sentiment. "It has been hasn't it? Kind of scary. But in a good way. Now we just need to survive the next few years."
Piper
Piper shuddered. She did not like spiders.
"I'm sure you'll both be fine," Piper added, continuing to mix ingredients. "You'll have each other."
Isabel
"I'd like to think so," she replied. "We'll just have to work at it." And if working at it involved nights like Monday, it'd be a job Isabel would enjoy.
Piper
"I know I'm not technically his mother, but I do want what's best for him," Piper said sincerely. "And I think that you are."
Isabel
"Thanks," Isabel smiled, turning a little pink. She focused her attention on the ingredients on the counter. "I assume we start with flour?"
Piper
"Yeah, we can start adding the dry ingredients," Piper said. "I'm glad we decided to do this."
Isabel
"Me to. I think it makes it that much more special," she agreed.
Piper
Piper smiled. "Yeah. And I think Bridge and Xander will be pleased."
Isabel
"I'm sure they will. Of course we have to finish baking it first. So I guess we'd better get started."
