Ideas for lunches on a weird schedule?

I've just been handed a weird schedule at work. I work in an Elementary School and from next week I will be working noon - 3.00 p.m. on Tuesday - Friday (previously I have worked complete days: 8.30 a.m. - 3.00 p.m. with an hour for lunch at noon. I used to take a packed lunch of sandwiches, yogurt, candy bar, fruit etc.) The thing is, it will take ( Read more... )

Maybe it might be better for you to eat a brunch-y meal around 10:30 before you leave for work, and plan to put something in the crockpot that will be ready when you get home at 3:30?

My suggestion would be to have a very minimal meal when you first wake up (coffee & a piece of fruit or yogurt e.g.), a high fat, low carb meal at 11 (piece of grilled meat or cold cuts with veggies e.g.) so that you stay fuller longer (your body digests carbs very quickly, but fat and protein very slowly, you may also find that if you were to eat a high dose of carbs before your longest stretch of not eating through the day that you will become very tired and reach for a very high sugar snack like a soda or candy bar), and then when you get home from work, have a small snack, then your evening meal at a "normal" time, like 6 or 7pm if you have household members who expect that, or just have your evening meal as soon as you get home if you find that you're desperately hungry.

Good luck!

I ahve to agree with the others. something light like a bit of fruit for breakfast and then something heavier at about 10.45am for lunch. girl_fawkes is right about carbs. something high in carbs is not best. I used to work crazy shifts for years and eating something high in carbs only made the shift harder. i almost always got really tired, sluggish and sleepy.

So, nothing wrong with sandwiches, but fill it with plenty of chicken or beef and have it with a large salad. I often have an open face sandwich, this way i can pile on lots of veg and meat. if im rushed for time, i have a massive bowl of porridge with lots of fruit.
