Christmas cake tin

Nov 28, 2012 17:00

In the past I've made Delia Smith's Christmas cake in a round spring form tin. This year, I know I'm late, I'd like to use loaf tins. Will this alter the cooking time? Be a big mistake?

Depends on the volume of the pan, but it will probably alter it slightly.

Me and a friend both made Delia's cake together, I used a small round tin and made a tall round cake, she used a square tin and her cake was shallower. Her's took less time than mine, so it would probably alter it if the cake ends up being shallower in the tin and would take less time, I would just look at it through the door and once it's risen and browned ever so slightly on top, test it with the skewer test.
