We've had our electric Black and Decker griddle for some five or six years now. At first it was a pleasure, but now it's old and tired, isn't nearly as nonstick as it once was, and works efficiently when it feels like it. Cook's Illustrated did an equipment review in 2009 and their winner was the Broilking Professional Griddle for $100 (US). Runners up were the West Bend Cool-Touch Nonstick Electric Griddle (since discontinued) and the Cuisinart Griddler ($129). Pricey.
Of the moderately priced models, the only one that even got "recommended with reservations" was the Rival Non-Stick Electric Griddle ($40).
They did not like the Presto Professional 22-inch Jumbo Electric Griddle ($40), the Cuisinart Electric Nonstick Grill and Griddle ($100), and the Black & Decker Family-Size Electric Nonstick Griddle ($30).
Criteria included accuracy of temperature settings, temperature consistency across the entire cooking surface, ease of use, ease of cleaning, and size of cooking area.
