i was wondering if people could recommend the best places online to buy whole spices so that i can grind them at home? what are your favorite sites?

I'm gonna be the first of probably a lot of people to recommend Penzeys.com. Reasonably priced and very good quality. They sell both whole and ground spices, but have most common things available whole.

thanks! yeah, i saw penzey's when i googled. i just was wondering if google wasn't the best option and if i was missing you know something ~secret and amazing~ so i thought i'd ask people who may know a better site before i bought online!

Seconding Penzeys - I get all my stuff from them these days, and they're awesome.

In this case, Google is your friend (although it often totally isn't, so asking makes sense). I happen to live close to a Penzey's store and have had a lot of opportunity to peruse their wares and such. Also, if you bake I highly recommend their dutch process cocoa and various extracts.

I used to use Penzey's, but then I went into business myself selling herbs and spices while vending at medieval re-enactor events and I found Frontier Natural was the best source for fresh whole spices for grinding on your own. I'm no longer in business, but Frontier Natural also sells in smaller amounts for individual use. I still wouldn never buy from anyone else.
