What texascarl says.

I had this done myself, about 4 years ago. It was hell, and for the first few days, eating ANYTHING was not only a chore, but the last thing I really wanted to do.

Pastas, all the way, mix in those things you think he may like, that dont rely on any real chewing - try it yourself if you aren't sure. You'll need to be able to mash it on the roof of your mouth with only your tounge, and swallow it, if you can't, he definitely won't be able to.

You're really going to have to go with what he feels up to on a day to day basis, because there's also a good possibility of depression hitting within a day or two afterwards (everything hurts). If that happens, eating ANYTHING, even 'all starches' is going to be an honest to goodness feat.

Hopefully it goes well!

avoid seeds!! Smoothies and stuff are wonderful, but favor banana/guava/passionfruit/peach/pineapple/etc. over berry ones.

You can throw some protein powder in to give it some substance.

Applesauce and maybe later, some risotto?

Make the gravy like you would for chicken stew. Dumplings or rice with this.

When I had jaw surgery, it was a lot of soup and certain things pureed. Corn chowder was great and lasagna in the blender was delicious too!
