Tender pork?

I'm trying to find more meals to feed my 1yo son. I've been stuck on chicken and pasta meals since they're so tender, and he doesn't seem to like ground beef yet. I'd love to make pork in some manner, but it all seems so tough for someone without teeth (his 2nd/3rd teeth just broke through yesterday). Do you have any suggestions for making pork ( Read more... )

Pulled pork sounds like it would fit the bill. I make mine in a low oven or the crock pot. I sprinkle it with salt, pepper, and garlic, then add about 2 cups apple juice (or beer) to the crock and the pork butt. Cover the pork with water and cook on low to medium for 8hours until it's fork tender.

Let it cool, then shred with 2 forks. At this point, you can use it in sandwiches, or refry it for carnitas. I like it with a bit of bbq sauce on a sweet roll, but it's also good with ramen noodles in a broth.

I'd definitely give pulled pork a shot. It's super tender and really versatile!

we get minced pork in australia, is that available to you? it can be substituted in anything you can made from beef mince, but it is especially good in a lime flavoured stir-fry

I've never heard of it, so most likely not.

if you're in the US, a lot of grocery stores in medium-to-large cities carry ground pork, or will grind it for you if you ask. any grocery store that makes in-house sausages can certainly get you some ground pork, because they are using it in their sausages.

Sausages are another good way to try kids on pork, btw...my toddler loves him some sweet italian sausage.

I could probably try it, but since he seems to picky about ground beef, he may not like it. I think it's the texture more than the taste.

I may check into that. I have a carnivore's abhorrence of tofu. ;-)

you can make various pork stews in the crockpot. I usually use pork butt in stews, but recently under some strange conditions ended up using already-cooked pork loin, cubed up small (about 1/2" dice). that worked really well for my toddler!
