Turkey Alternative?

I am hosting a pre-Christmas Eve dinner on the 23rd for friends, and I have been requested to *not* make a traditional turkey.  The problem is, my spouse and I both want a traditional-style holiday dinner ( Read more... )

Personally, this year, I am making Alton Brown's Coq Au Vin recipe, but it may not be an option for every one, as the two bottles of wine are rather expensive and it's extremely time consuming.

I'm not sure if it would go well with your other dishes, also.

It is an amazing dish though, especially when paired with egg noodles.

I get most of my wine from Aldi - about 3 bucks a bottle.

The expensive stuff is the craft beer. Wait, you don't think I'm going to spend good beer money on *wine*?!!?

That's exactly how I am - I'll pay $6 for a bottle of craft beer but am blown away when I consider buying wine that's more than $10 a bottle.

Ola Dubh Special 30 $18.99 for a 330ml bottle. KBS, $24-$26 a 4 pack of 12oz bottles.

Spend $10 on wine?!!? Do you think I'm made of money?!!!?

What about a pork crown roast?

That, or a standing rib roast as someone mentioned upthread are also pretty traditional holiday main dishes.
