Asian Pork Loin Roast & Savory Cinnamon Rice

Sep 26, 2010 20:30

I get home late from work during the week, so weekends are my time to really cook what I want (and not what's easy). This Saturday, I tried a new recipe for pork, and added one of my favorite ways to make rice, and it was WONDERFUL.

meal: dinner, meat: pork, grains: rice, sauce: marinade

Mmmm, that sounds wonderful. We're having dinner guests in a couple weeks, and I was stewing over what to make. Stew no more! LOL. One question though, do you think that rice dish would be good with brown rice? If so, how much water would you recommend I use? I know it takes a little more than white, but I'm not sure how to convert it in an instance like this. Thanks muchly.

I think the brown rice could work well with the dish, with it's nutty flavors; but IIRC, brown rice takes longer to cook as well, so you may want to take that into account when making it.

As for the water conversion, 2 cups water to 1 cup brown rice seems to be the usual ratio, so I'd go with that.

Good luck with your guests, I hope all goes well!

It's wonderful, my family kinda looked at it funny when I said it had cinnamon, raisins, and sugar, but they enjoyed it too.

To be honest, I'm not usually a rice fan, but I could eat this one every week!

Interesting flavor profile going on with the pork. Apart from the soy, what do you feel makes it a really "Asian" inspired dish?

You could probably even get away with adding some star anise and brown sugar to your marinade to bump up the Eastern flavors - with the garlic and honey, I think it'd be amazing :)

Well, I've seen ginger and curry powder being called 'South Asian' ingredients, but the title is admittedly a bit broad in definition.

Hmm, those 'extras' sound like a great addition! I might have to give those a try next time around!
