vegetarian beans

Whenever my mother cooks beans in her crockpot, she uses smoked meat (neck bones or turkey wings) for seasoning. What do you do when you're vegetarian and don't want to use meat for seasoning?

Just don't put in the meat

Add some savory, salt, and pepper and cook it the same way

Also a dash of vegetarian Worchester sauce, made by World Harbors. Great stuff and no nasty little fishies!

Also, I always use finely diced onion, celery & carrot. Plus, I like cumin in my beans.
