Spice Tasting

Jan 07, 2010 08:35

I have a friend who claimed not to like Indian food. We took her out to an Indian restaurant recently and she actually liked most of the food. But there were some flavors she didn't like. So I decided to do a spice tasting so she could figure out exactly which spice she didn't like ( Read more... )

Probably.
Although the chili powder didn't taste particularly strong.
I was trying for consistency for experimental purposes.

When I was in high school I didn't eat mustard at all. I guess I had some idea that it tasted like pickles (which I do NOT eat). I love it now on hot dogs or most types of sausages especially the spicy versions of mustard. :) My tastes definitely changed over the years.

As to turmeric, I like to season some oil with whole cumin seeds, some turmeric and then added washed basmati rice to the pan, stir it around well to coat the rice, dump the whole thing into a casserole dish with chicken or veggie stock and bake it in the oven til all the liquid is absorbed. Stir in some peas (thawed from frozen or canned) and you have an easy indian rice dish.

I've always thought turmeric tasted like sweat.

The cheese and yogurt didn't interfere with the spices? I get that they're supposed to be "flavorless," but I actually find the sour flavor of Greek yogurt to be a little overpowering!

I imagine at 4T to a pound of cheese, the yogurt didn't impart a whole lot of tang.

The original recipe called for sour cream. But my friend doesn't like sour cream so I went with the 0% fat Greek yogurt because I knew she would like that and it tastes very much like sour cream.
