take one - baked beans

Jan 13, 2006 20:01

Any good ideas for recipes with baked beans? I am incorporating more fiber into my diet and after a trip to BJ's I now have 8 cans of Bush's baked beans in my pantry.

I tried to look in the memories section but the function wasn't working for the legumes category.

Won't you please help me make space in my pantry once again?

My baked beans really don't have a recipe. I usually add spicy mustard, brown sugar, a tiny bit of soy sauce, some worstchier sauce, salt and pepper, diced onion and a bit of garlic and then throw them into the slow cooker.

If I want to make them different, I'll brown some ground beef, and then chuck it into the food processor until it's very broken up, and stir that in as well.

I used to eat them with toast. It made me nostalgic for my bike trip through England, where it's a traditional breakfast item.

saute some veggies and garlic in red wine (no oil) (good veggies include carrots, zucchini, cauliflower, string beans... and garlic and onion are important too), when slightly softened put 'em in a casserole with a can of baked beans and one or two diced tomatoes (canned is fine), add some herbs/spices, and bake for a while. it sounds so basic and simple, and it really is, but the end result is SOOOO much more than the sum of its parts. it's delicious! if you want, you can add some bacon or sausage too.
