Out and about

Rain is pelting down outside my windows! After running around a bit earlier today, I am now snug in my apartment enjoying the weather. We generally get only one or two wet days in a row so it's a nice change of pace before the usual sun and blue skies resume ( Read more... )

One of my favorite recipes is vegan, I do believe.

Imjedderah

1/4 cup lentils
1/2 cup rice
vegetable broth
1/2 onion (sliced)
pinenuts (optional)
oil of choice
cumin
allspice
hot pepper
salt to taste

Cook lentils/rice until done in broth and spices. Meanwhile fry onion in oil until almost burned (very crispy). Remove and put aside
Fry the pinenuts in leftover oil until they are deep brown. Be careful, they burn fast.
Add onions and pinenuts to lentils/rice mixture

I often eat this with vegetable salad in homemade vinaigrette

Thanks! I thought you might have something yummy to share. :o) Do you use a yellow onion?

Got some onions and lentils today so I am close to trying your dish. I don't have cumin and allspice so will wait until I can pick those up. I tried something new tonight for dinner and it came out very yummy. I fried one chopped yellow onion without oil in a pan, then added some Muir Glen Organic Crushed Fire Roasted Tomatoes. I rarely use canned tomatoes (and in fact I have fresh ones here) but these were recommended as being very tasty (true!). I made polenta with veg broth and used that as a base, creamy. Then added the tomato mixture on the side. Mmmm!

The rain is JUST starting here.

I'm glad you take your camera with you. Your shots are fun.

Thanks. Good luck with the rain. Still cloudy here today but I think it's going to all clear away. We got a good soaking yesterday - and after writing I was all snug in my apartment, wouldn't you know something came up and I had to go out in it.

Repeat after me - weneedtherain, weneedtherain. . . :D

Actually, I adore a good solid rainy day, which is indeed what we had to day. Just don't ask me to drive an hour in the stuff on my way to word at 6 in the morning. :P

Bergamot Station reminds me - have you gotten to many of the Pacific Standard Time shows? We've seen about a dozen or more of them - yay on the Ghetty for subsidizing them.

Man, it's been totally too long since we went to the Pantages. Last thing I saw there was Wicked.

I think the clouds are going to blow away today. Yes, we got soaked yesterday - and I ended up having to go out in it in the late afternoon... but it was fine. I know of them but haven't ever made it to any of the PST shows. There is always so much to try to do here! Thanks for the reminder - need to put that on my to do list. I saw Wicked when it was there, too. The last thing I saw there was Hair last year. Not the best production of Hair that I've seen, but I always catch it when I can.

Heh - I can't leave that without a favorite quote from my teacher calendar.

Coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) - That's the most appalling thing I've seen since I saw an elementary school production of Hair.

That's funny. (As an aside, I hate Glee but love Jane - and all of the Christopher Guest regulars.)

I saw the original LA production of Hair at the Aquarius Theatre back in the day and still have the program. Did we already have this conversation? ;o)

We got the rain here too, and it's still wet outside. I will be driving to work today. ;)

Fun pics, as usual. That art piece is interesting, but looks like it would take up a lot of room! lol. That theater is gorgeous.

That art piece was about 2.5' tall, I think. By the way, just while I am thinking about it, FYI, Fellowship the Musical is back in LA for awhile, playing only on Friday nights. I'm not particularly dying to see it again, but thought I'd let you know.

Wheeee! Fellowship! Thanks but I think I'll pass. I won't have time off until the end of May and I doubt they'll still be around by then. :)

Yeah, I loved it but don't really have any urge to see it again. If they ever did The Hobbit, then that might be new/fun.

I really, really like that art piece that tempted you . . .you, being the artist that you are, probably could create something similar:)

What fun pics. I am really impressed how well the Pantages shots came out. Great detail. I have not been there since Wicked. Wish there was something fabulous coming there soon, even if just to soak up the environment in there.

We had a great day with FIDM! Too bad they wouldn't let us take pix of the costumes inside, they were glorious. The milliner folk were charming.

And of course, can't help loving seeing Cafe Audrey again, I think we can make it a tradition<3

How nice that you have such faith in my artistic abilities. :o) Of course, he basically copied Alexander Calder... that was what I thought the instant I entered the gallery. Howe even had mobiles, there, too (for which Calder is most famous).

The first two, wonderful Pantages photos are not by me... got them online. You can see why I yearn for a professional camera. I could never get those shots with mine. I might just break down and get one, bulky size (which has been the primary deterrent) notwithstanding.

Cafe Audrey as a tradition (with you) is a grand idea.
