Random Update--TGIF!

Really good day today. The hubby and I are both off and we ran some errands together. Went to a great pan-Asian cafe less than five minutes from the house and had a spectacular lunch. We were given complimentary soups--I chose the Thai Coconut (small bits of chicken, baby corn and mushroom in a coconut broth laced with lemongrass and galangal). It was by far one of the best things I've had in a while. I followed that with a refreshing Green Papaya Salad (papaya, jicima, tomatoes and cilantro with a spicy tamarind dressing, sprinkled with coarsely chopped peanuts). D chose a fish entree that just melted on the tongue. It was spectacular. Highly recommended for anyone in the Triangle area.

D had a first follow up with his primary care doctor following the emergency room visit. Since his initial visit two months ago, he's lost eight pounds. His blood pressure peaked at 186/110 during the nosebleed debacle and today it came in at 140/80. The doctor was encouraged by everything we're doing and I couldn't be more proud of my husband for really taking a proactive approach to his health. Now me, I can't seem to shed a single pound to save my life, but we won't go there! There will be another follow up in one month to do blood work--testing for uric acid and cholesterol levels. I'm hoping that the changes we've made will be enough so that no other prescription medication will be necessary and he can get off the Amlodipine--his only remaining medicine aside from migraine meds--no later than the end of the year. D's ultimate goal is to get down to his Iraq weight and be prescription free.

Oh, funny but not funny. D purchased his truck used a year or so ago. He's been having problems with static when the radio played but could not seem to pinpoint the problem. He spent a day dismantling the doors and inspecting the wiring leading to the speakers. Finally, with the problem still alluding him, he decided to take it to a car audio specialist this morning. Do you know what the man discovered? You'll never guess. The person that originally installed the stereo had taped the connecting wires together behind it with electrical tape. Yes, you read that right. The resulting heat had melted the tape causing multiple problems. Electrical tape?! How lazy must the person have been? The audio specialist remarked that this was not uncommon. Sheesh.

Going to see 88 Minutes this afternoon (yay for super discounted early matinee pricing) followed by a light dinner--new recipes coming soon--and our C25K run/walk. Edit: The movie was pretty good. There was a preview for a new film, Righteous Kill, with Pacino and De Niro that opens in September. Can't wait until that comes out. D wants to see The Strangers--audio launches immediately--but I can't watch it with him because I'm a big wuss when it comes to scary stuff.

Hope everyone is having an awesome Friday. Do you have anything special planned for the weekend?
