A few weeks ago, we paid a visit to El Sombrero in Smithfield. Loop through North Equity Drive, as if you are driving back to the movie theater, and the restaurant is anchoring the corner of a strip plaza on your left. Inside is dark and cavernous with paneled walls, heavy carved booths and dim lighting. The drape of colorful pleated serapes separates the dining room from a small bar. Although neat overall, the interior is definitely spare and in dire need of an update.
Not a ton of time for a proper review so I'll leave it at this: Service was prompt. Drinks remained filled to the brim. Prices were reasonable, portions were generous and food was delicious. Darryl had Beef Fajitas ($7.99) and I opted for the Pollo a la Parilla ($8.99?). Both entrees were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. My chicken came with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, fresh pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and flour tortillas. Definitely worth a second try.
