on leaving

i've been down lately. i just learned that a few batchmates of mine are considering moving to a new company. with higher salaries, of course.

and it got me into thinking of better opportunities outside the current job im in. my same batchmates, same level of competencies, but with better compensation in more prestigious companies ( Read more... )

do not make decisions based on peer perception or comparison. it's just silly. your performance is your own and this is what triggers any increases in salary.

salary should always be commensurate to skill.

if it's just a question of going somewhere to be paid the most in comparison to the rest of your batch, then why aren't so many people running to become outbound call center telemarketers or direct sales people where you can makes loads of money if you exceed your quotas?

think about what really matters to you about your career and if the company meets those needs. if the answer is no, then you have a valid reason to leave.

sorry for sounding somewhat harsh - i guess i just feel strongly about this sort of thing.

compensation is so much more than just a paycheck.
