So I was looking through that survey, and I noticed that a lot of people had... interesting professions. I'd like to get to know my neighbors too, so tell me about your job, or whatever it is you do! If you're a student, what do you want to do when when you're finished with school ( Read more... )

Chief of the SOS-Brigade.

[Yeah, that totally makes sense.]

A programmer? I am not sure I understand what you mean...

I am a vampire hunter. My job is to protect the people of my world from vampires and demons.

[Here, have some copypasta.] Basically, a programmer is someone who writes instructions for computers, machines that follow directions. You put the instructions in, and if you did it right, the computer will do what you tell it to.

A vampire hunter? Haha, we could have used you around in Tokyo. Sounds like a dangerous job. Is that something people sign up for?

Like an animal trainer?

It is a job some choose. In my case, I inherited the Vampire Killer, my family's weapon, so it was my duty to hunt vampires and defeat Dracula when he rose again.

A lot like that, yes. But computers have a lot less limitations than animals.

Oh, so it's a family business. The Vampire Killer though, huh? Sounds cool! What is it, a sword? A stake?

A programmer? What do you mean?

As I said in the survey, I'm a Summoner. I can explain in greater detail, if it's necessary.

[Copypasta for you too.] Basically, a programmer is someone who writes instructions for computers, machines that follow directions. You put the instructions in, and if you did it right, the computer will do what you tell it to.

I'd like that, I'm not really sure what it means.

Hm...that sounds interesting, if complicated. We don't have anything quite like that in my world, though perhaps a more advanced race we knew would have knowledge of such things.

It's all right. A Summoner is one who can call forth various -Eidolon- to aid in battle and protect our village. They have to earn the right by challenging the Eidolon first. Only when the Eidolon is defeated will it acknowledge the Summoner's right to call.

I'm not sure what a programmer is, but I'd be interested to hear more about it.

...I'm one of the Returners. It's a resistance group in my world.

Oh, hey! I haven't said hi to you since you... came back, sorry. We got full marks on that project, if you were wondering. Anyway. Machines that follow directions, you put the instructions in, and if you did it right, the computer will do what you tell it to.

Oh, like Celes! Must be exciting, fighting the power and everything. How do people get into something like that?

I'm glad we passed. I was worried that my...um, disappearance might have made things more difficult. I'm sorry I couldn't be there for the rest of it.

Hm...those computer sound a little like magitek, only more benign. I think I understand, as much as I can without seeing one.

...well, in my case, it was pretty much by accident. Locke found me and brought me to their hideout. Come to think on it, almost everyone I met lately stumbled into it. Only a couple of people from home actually planned on joining. But...the Empire caused a lot of loss, so there wasn't a lack of motivation.
