And that makes the hurt even sharper, because you have to wonder if maybe James really *would* have defected with him or Alec would have stayed if they'd ever actually said the word.

It's possible Alec is going through the same thing, but it's equally possible that Janus is sitting back with a drink and having fun while James is breaking apart.
