Synopsis: “You are back so soon?” The blonde asked, blinking twice before picking up the cat and walking to the couch where his guardian sat. With a small smile, he kneeled down before the man and bowed respectfully, for respecting his guardian was most important upon return.
Comment: At the end.
Mana stared down at the blonde in confusion. What could he have possibly done that could be considered a mistake. Bou usually didn't do things if he knew it the outcome would be bad, so what had he done? Mana furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at the boy. He appeared as if he had done something he really regretted. “What do you mean by you think you made a mistake, my dear?“ He watched as Bou twirled his thumbs around one another and sighed in frustration. He kept his head bowed, nibbling on his lip instead of looking up at his guardian, for he wasn’t sure how he would respond to what he had done. If Mana were to get mad, he didn't want to see it. He hated to see Mana angry; he lost control, and it wasn't something Bou wanted to deal with.
“I turned Rame into a vampire… He asked me to, and I could not say no to him.” Bou muttered his response quietly. It was probably a bad idea to turn him into a vampire; it wasn’t easy to adjust to the life of a dead creature. It would be difficult for Rame to sit back and watch his mother grieving over the sudden loss of her only son, and it would be even more difficult for Bou to watch as his friend regretted his decision. Rame would quickly see that he cherished his life as it was; he had a loving mother who always supported him, he had friends who had known him for years, and he was one of the smartest kids in his class. He threw it all away just because he wanted to stay with Bou forever. And Bou just let it happen.
Mana shook his head and took a seat next to Bou, draping his arm over the boy’s shoulder sympathetically. It wasn’t like Bou to do something without putting thought into it. Turning someone into a vampire was something that couldn’t be done on the spur of the moment. If he really cared for his friend, he would have taken the time to talk it over with Mana; he would have brought Rame home with him to discuss it. The life of a vampire always seemed glorious; everyone always thought they had it easy. All they supposedly did was cause problems and kill people just for entertainment. Humans failed to realize just how much a vampire suffered; everything they ever had was taken from them. Their families never knew what happened, and if they did, they shunned them. Their lives were far from glamorous; most vampires hated it, but they were cowards who feared dying like a typical person.
“He can not live his life like us, Mana-Sama.”
Mana wrapped his arms tighter around the blonde as his shoulders began shaking. “There is nothing you or I can do about that now. I am sure he will be fine.” His fingers pulled Bou’s hair back over his shoulders and out of his face as his other hand came up to wipe away the tears that had began to fall. “It is difficult to harm someone you love; even I have been in your position.”
Bou sniffled softly, wiping his nose on his sleeve even though he knew Mana would dislike it. Proper elegant vampires didn't use their sleeves to wipe their noses, Mana had once said. “Have I done wrong? What if he does not like being a vampire and hates me?” His eyes widened at the thought. There were so many flaws that came with being a vampire, and he was sure Rame wouldn’t like it despite all he had said. There was more to it than just drinking blood and only going out during the night. Rame didn’t seem as if he were the type to handle such a lifestyle in the first place, but Bou was too excited to actually give it much thought. The idea of being with his friend forever was what made him do it. In the back of his head, he knew it was a bad idea.
“You have not done anything wrong, love, but there must have been a reason for you to do it. Whatever your reason may be, I am sure he will not hate you.” From what Mana knew regarding the other boy, there was nothing Bou could ever do to anger him. If Rame wanted this life, he would have to live it. He was the one who asked Bou to do it, and Bou didn’t need to be the one suffering.
“I guess I did it because I love Rame. I think. I do not know what love feels like, Mana-Sama.” Bou’s head tilted to the side as he finally glanced up at his guardian. Mana’s eyes were looking straight into his, and Bou looked back down at his hands out of nervousness. The way Mana looked at him made him feel as if he had said something wrong. Was he feeling love for the other boy?
There was a slight sigh as Mana pulled the boy closer, allowing his head to rest on his shoulder. “And I cannot tell you what love feels like, you must find out on your own.” He combed his fingers through Bou‘s hair once more, hugging him closer for support. Bou‘s shoulders stopped shaking, his sniffles dying down. “But I am sure you will find out. Rame will be fine, if not in a little pain. You may see him as night falls, but right now, you must go to bed. The sun is already up!” He picked the blonde up and carried him into his room. He laid Bou on his bed and covered him up, tucking him in neatly and pressing a short kiss to his forehead.
“Mana-Sama,” Bou said softly, reaching out from beneath his blankets to grab Mana’s arm. “what did Gackt want?” The older vampire sighed heavily, moving a piece of hair away from Bou’s face. He smiled softly yet sadly, cupping the blonde’s cheek in his hand. He didn’t necessarily want to tell the boy Klaha was on his way, but he would figure it out eventually. It couldn't be hidden; eventually he would have to meet with Kami and Yu~ki to figure out what they were going to do.
“Is it bad?” Bou pulled his bottom lip between his teeth and furrowed his eyebrows.
Mana turned so he was facing the doorway, “Klaha is coming to find me. Gakuto said he is on his way here.” He reached back blindly to pat the younger vampire on the head. He didn’t want to show just how worried he actually was; Klaha was a lot to worry about even if he wanted to push his worries aside. Nothing good would come to him if he was nervous and showing it.
“But how does Klaha know where you are?” Bou sat up, turning his head to the side. How could Mana sit there and act as if it were nothing? Klaha was vile, from what he had heard. He spared no one, and he killed without a second thought. Klaha was the most merciless vampire and slayer there ever was.
“Gakuto had told him, of course. You cannot expect him to meet a slayer without ratting someone out.” Mana laughed bitterly. It was pitiful how Gackt behaved half of the time. All he ever cared about was himself and nothing more. Every friend he ever had, he had ratted out and had killed. It was no surprise that he was completely alone in the world; even Kami wanted nothing to do with him, and Kami loved everyone.
Bou cocked his head to the side, a look of concern stretching across his face. “But why would Gackt tell Klaha?” He didn’t doubt that Gackt had done it to make a statement. He didn’t have to know him to know he was a complete waste of space who tried his best to make it seem as if he had some importance about him. Why would he want to lead Klaha straight to Mana?
“Because, my dear, I left Gackt for Kozi. He is merely trying to get revenge, and he thinks letting a slayer kill me is the ultimate revenge. But little does he know, no slayer could possibly kill me.” A grin made it’s way to his lips as he turned back around to look at the blonde. If Klaha showed up, there would be a battle. Mana had the upper hand, for he had two of the most powerful vampires on his side, and what did Klaha have? No one nearly as strong.
“Why is that?”
“Why do you think I am the head vampire, dear? I am strong, and I was the strongest until I turned Kozi into a vampire. He was a strong human who became an even stronger vampire. Although he surpassed me in strength, he could not take my role as the leader. You and I are strongly protected because of my role. If matters come to it, Yu~ki and Kami will do all the fighting, for I will protect you, but I hope it does not come down to that. Klaha will die by my hands.”
“I am protected? Why me?” Mana sighed heavily, pushing the blonde back gently and pulling the blanket up to his chin.
“Why so many questions this morning?”
Bou giggled, snuggling into his bed and yawning. “I am curious of this Klaha person, that is all.”
“Very well. You will be protected because you are mine.” The older vampire stood from the bed, smoothing out his dress. He blew out the candle sitting on the table next to Bou’s bed and proceeded to walk toward the door. It was getting late, and the sun was already up; Bou should have already been asleep.
The blonde smiled beneath the blankets, “Oh. That is good to know. So I do not have to worry about getting slain?” He watched as Mana turned around to look at him with his usual blank expression.
“Of course not, my dear. Please get some sleep now.”
“But Mana-Sama,” Bou said as Mana moved to exit the room, “what if Gackt comes back?” The last thing he wanted was to see that man again. He was improper and awkward. Bou didn’t like people who touched him, and he didn’t like people who were rude and deceiving.
“What if he does?” Mana raised an eyebrow, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed.
Bou bit his lip. “He will not harm you, will he?”
Mana chuckled, turning his back to leave. “Of course not. Now sleep before you make me angry.”
---
Mana laid on the couch with his arm over the side, his hand playing with Nakoruru‘s soft fur absentmindedly. Even if he felt terribly tired, he could not allow himself to sleep, or maybe it was because he just could not make himself sleep.
“So Klaha was on his way…” He muttered to himself. He couldn’t think of anything else other than that treacherous slayer. He failed to admit that he was actually afraid, but not afraid for himself, but for Bou. He had no faith in the other vampires who were supposedly protecting his precious blonde. If they were so strongly protecting him and the one closely associated with him, why had Kozi been slain? Surely they were supposed to protect him too.
“Will I really be able to defeat him?” He felt strangely weak, almost as if he would just let the other man kill him if he didn‘t have so much determination. But why should he even bother if Gackt said Mana could not defeat him? Gackt was one of the few people who had experienced Mana’s strength.
He stood up and began pacing. It did no good to just lie around with such thoughts in mind. Kozi wouldn’t have wanted him to be so weak. If he were still alive, he would tell him to be strong. How many people had Mana killed in the past? How many slayers had he encountered that were no match for him? Mana had been through hell and back, so why was he so afraid all of a sudden? What gave him the right to doubt himself and his friends?
---
Rame woke up to his mother shaking him vigorously, her hands clamping onto his shoulders tightly as she shook him with as much force as she could muster. He looked horrible; his skin was pale to the point it was almost completely white. As she placed her hand on his forehead, she noticed how cold he had become. He wasn’t moving, and it was almost as if he were dead, and she would have believed he were if he didn’t open his eyes the best he could.
He tried to move, but found it too difficult as he had no energy whatsoever. The only thing he found that he could do was faintly open his eyes, but even that seemed painful. A soft whimper escaped him as his mother pulled him up to wrap her arms around him.
“I thought you were dead!” His mother put a hand over her heart after lying the boy back down. She let out a relieved sigh, running her fingers through her hair. “You look absolutely terrible, are you feeling all right?”
“No.” His voice came out weakly; it was so soft that it could hardly be heard. His mother had to lean in just to hear him speak, and he knew she was worrying more because of it.
“I will call the doctor. You are not going to school today.”
He nodded the best he could as his mother stood. “Okasan, could you close the curtains, please?“ He muttered. His mother nodded, closing the curtains as asked, then she hurried out of the room to call the doctor even though it would do no good.
It was painful, but he wasn’t going to complain even the tiniest bit. This what was he wanted; this was what he had to go through to be with Bou for eternity. He refused to show his misery; it would only make him look ungrateful. Bou would feel terrible if he knew how much Rame was actually suffering, but he already had a general idea.
“I thought your mother would never leave.” An amused voice caught his attention as he opened his eyes. A man with long, curly, black hair stepped out from the corner and sat on the edge of the bed. He wore a long black coat that was closed in the front so his clothes couldn’t be seen. He looked almost scary, and if Rame didn’t have a feeling it was one of Bou’s friends, he would have feel afraid.
“What are you doing in my room?” He didn’t know the name of this vampire, but he was sure he’d figure it out eventually. After his transformation, he would have to meet all the vampires Bou was associated with. Hopefully the rest of them didn’t look as scary as this one.
“Watching over you until Bou can accompany you, of course.” The vampire spoke, reaching over to pat the brunette on the leg. “The pain is terrible, is it not?”
Rame made a face. “I know he must be regretting this, but really, I do not mind.” Yu~ki let out a laugh, causing Rame to pout.
“You will soon learn to regret this, Rame.” Yu~ki laughed again as he stood up. “Do you have any idea how much of a bother this whole process will be to me? Until Kami is ready for you, I will be the one to keep an eye on you. While the doctor is here, you must pretend as if you are clueless as to what happened to you. You are not to mention anything of suspicion. You can mention you were playing with Bou, but nothing more. Do not mention where you were playing, for that area is known for vampire activity, and we do not want your mother to know you are becoming a monster.” He walked across the room to the windows that were covered in thick curtains. There was a small amount of sunlight casting it’s way into the room, but it wasn’t enough to do any harm to him.
“I will let you know when you have transformed, but you shall know as well. When you grow hungry and you feel your teeth changing, you are almost there. You will have to deal with your hunger, for you will not be able to leave the room. Perhaps Bou can bring some blood for you; the two of you probably have the same taste.”
“And what happens after I have transformed?” Anything Bou had said previously had left him, for he wasn’t concerned with anything other than Bou biting him.
Yu~ki grinned, “You will pretend to be dead. It is simple, really. You do not need to breathe; just lie there as still as you can, and as a vampire you will find it to be very easy. Do not panic once your body is removed from your home. No one can harm you, for I will be with you at all times. I know Bou wants to be the one to stay by your side, but it is too dangerous for him, and Mana would never allow it. You will be taken to the morgue where they will do an autopsy, but only if your mother allows it. Bou will, as I am assuming, try to convince her it is not needed. Once you are properly dressed and placed in your coffin, your funeral will take place. Of course there will be a showing as well, and you will have to be patient. After the showing and the funeral, Bou and I will help you out of your coffin.”
Although Bou had told him to dig his way out of his grave or attempt to use his abilities that wouldn’t be strong enough at that point, Rame would do neither one. Rame wasn’t going to be the typical vampire.
“Forget everything Bou had told you previously; I will get you out of your grave. There will be no digging, and you will not use any abilities, for they will not be strong enough.”
Rame closed his eyes again, sighing softly. “And that is all?”
“It does not seem like much, but you will see that it is more difficult than you think.” Yu~ki shot over to the corner as soon as the door opened and Rame’s mother was shuffling into the room with a doctor behind her. It was only a matter of time before Rame transformed, and that was when the fun would begin.
---
Fingers gripped dark hair and pulled harshly as a scream ripped through the air. He said he wouldn’t do it; he promised he wouldn’t do it, but there Kozi was, leaning away from the beautiful man as he squeezed his eyes shut.
Mana promised to never hurt him, yet there he was, standing in the middle of the sidewalk with Mana's teeth deep in his neck.
Kozi’s eyes rolled into the back of his head as he was pulled closer to the other’s body inch by inch. Mana’s teeth were digging further into him, his jugular vein had already been punctured, and blood was spewing out from the wound, yet the vampire showed no signs of stopping. And Kozi didn’t want him to stop. It was strange how such a painful feeling could delightful.
His head fell forward, resting against Mana's shoulder as the vampire sucked his blood loudly. He always thought vampires were monsters, for they did no good for society. All they did was kill the innocent to benefit themselves, but then he saw Mana.
The first time he saw the man was late at night while walking home. The vampire had been walking along the opposite end the sidewalk. Just by looking at him, Kozi knew he was a vampire. There was no other way to describe the man’s features other than that of a vampire. His skin was too white to be alive, and his lips looked as if they were stained with blood.
And they were.
Mana was all too alluring. Even without being under Mana's spell, Kozi wanted him. He was more beautiful than any woman he had ever seen. The way his eyes were painted in dark makeup and the way his lips were perfectly shaped had grabbed his attention. The blue dress he wore came to the middle of his milky thighs, showing that he wasn't just a pretty face, but a beautiful body as well. Most women around that time couldn't compare to the beauty Mana possessed.
“Do you wish to kill me?” Kozis fingers gripped Mana’s hair tighter as he attempted to pry the vampire away, but only for a moment. It was useless; Mana had said he went days without food. After vampires had been discovered in town, many people chose to stay inside during the night. It would have been easy for Mana to invade their privacy and enter their homes without welcome, but he had more decency, and he valued privacy.
It was a common myth that vampires couldn’t enter a home without invitation. Most vampires snuck into bedrooms at night and feasted on sleeping women or small children. Men were of no use to some of the vampires in town. Like Mana, they were somewhat particular with who they ate.
But Kozi was different. He was different than all the other men; he already looked as if he were a vampire, and if it wasn't for the obvious skin tone, Mana would have been fooled.
Kozi wasn’t surprised when Mana looked him in the eyes as he made his way toward Mana's home. He had grown fascinated with the man after their first encounter, and ever since, Kozi visited him on a nightly basis.
But he was trapped from the moment Mana’s lips turned up into a small smile, and before he could even blink, teeth were digging into his neck deliciously.
Mana pulled away, licking his lips as his finger wiped up the trail of blood flowing down Kozi’s neck. “I would do no such thing.” He watched as the blood dripped down his finger. “You will become one of us, and you and I will rule together.” He stuck the finger in his mouth, smiling as Kozi seemed to grow weaker.
A/N: Sorry for the shorter chapter; I haven't had the time today to really put work into this one. ^^; Tomorrow there may not be an update mainly because I feel as if I need to rest my mind for a little bit. I'm going to spend my day focusing on playing bass and relaxing, which means I'll also be thinking of some new ideas for this.
Ah, anyways, comments would be nice~ ♥
