Chapter: 17/?
Synopsis: It was no secret that Takashima Kouyou was a weird kid, no, everyone knew that and most people found it comical. Of all the little kids in Mrs. Yamaguchi’s first grade class, Kouyou was the most peculiar and had the least friends mainly because no one wanted to be near the kid who was convinced he had magical fairies in his book bag. It wasn’t just his imagination either, oh no, they were real fairies and Kouyou knew it. He spoke of them all the time and as long as no one ever saw them, and told someone of their appearance, they would never disappear. All the other little kids thought he was just crazy, even his two best friends, but he knew he was telling the truth, and that was all that mattered to him.
“Do you want some punch?” Kouyou looked over his shoulder at Yuu who was walking toward him. The blonde nodded with a small smile and turned back to Takanori. The two little boys had ran off to the other side of the gym together while the other two little boys watched Hiroto argue with Pon-nii-pon. Apparently Hiroto was jealous that Kazamasa’s attention was focused on the squirrel instead of him. The squirrel wasn’t as cute and loveable as him, and he was determined to make Kazamasa pay attention to him again. Kouyou and Takanori thought it was amusing how Hiroto was so jealous, but they weren’t going to watch him fight with a squirrel. Chances were the squirrel would win.
“I wish Akira was nice enough to get punch for me.” Takanori nudged the taller boy beside him and gave him a slight glare. Everyone knew the husband was supposed to be nice and get the punch instead of making the other do it themselves. Akira grunted and looked over at Kouyou as if he would walk over and get punch for Takanori, but after realizing the little blonde wasn’t going to move an inch, he grumbled and stomped over to the table holding the punch.
“He’s so stubborn sometimes.” Takanori played with his costume for a moment before turning back to Kouyou. “At least Yuu does things willingly for you.” Sometimes he wished Akira would be more like Yuu, even if he did love every single detail about Akira.
Kouyou smiled and looked over at Yuu as he poured punch into a cup. “Yuu’s a gentleman. He sticks up for me, and he even helps my mommy.” He smiled even wider as the dark-haired boy began walking toward him with two cups of punch in his hands. Yuu held out the cup in his right hand as Kouyou took the cup.
“What are you two doing over here?” He asked when he noticed Takanori looking at him with a grin. Kouyou took a sip of his punch and shrugged.
“Nothing really.” He took another sip. “Just you.”
“It’s good stuff, right?” Yuu looked at the two of them with a pout. Why would they be talking about him? What could possibly said about him?
Kouyou leaned his head on the other boy’s shoulder and giggled. “Yes. I was just telling him how nice you are. You’re nothing like Akira.”
“That’s because I’m not an airhead who was afraid to commit to someone.” Yuu took a drink of his punch and smirked at Takanori as Akira came walking toward them with a cup of punch for Takanori.
“Here.” Akira shoved the cup into Takanori’s hand and crossed his arms. “I didn’t know getting married meant I had to do everything.”
“Well now you do.” Takanori snapped back. Yuu poked Kouyou’s arm and motioned with his thumb toward the dance floor. Kouyou nodded his head quickly and grabbed his boyfriend’s hand because no one wanted to be present during one of Takanori’s and Akira’s fights. They almost always got out of hand and began hitting each other, and sometimes Akira didn’t stop himself from pouncing on his lover and sending him to the ground with a loud squeal of pain. Of course Akira never meant to hurt Takanori, but he did like it when he got mad and was quiet for once.
Yuu and Kouyou finished their drinks and made their way to the dance floor for the umpteenth time, but neither one of them seemed to matter too much. It was a dance, so it made sense that they spent most of their time dancing together.
Kouyou wrapped his arms around Yuu’s waist and rested his head on his shoulder, Yuu wrapped one arm around Kouyou’s waist while he played with Kouyou’s hair with his free hand. They danced slowly around the gym, neither one of them saying a word as the music played.
The dark-haired boy kept his gaze focused on the top of Kouyou’s head. He still had to make the day better than the last, and he only had a general idea of what he was going to do. There were so many things he could do to make Kouyou happy, but he wanted to make the day special. Not only would Kouyou remember the day for awhile, but he’d also be ecstatic for days. Kouyou had the best smile Yuu had ever seen, and as much as it annoyed him before, he couldn’t help but want to see it every time he looked at his boyfriend.
There was no denying what he felt for the other little boy. Tomo tried to tell him he didn’t know what he felt because he was too young, but Yuu knew he loved Kouyou. Like his mother said, age didn’t matter when it came to love. Even though they were only seven, Yuu knew they would be together for a really long time. He loved all of Kouyou’s little imperfections from his ditzy personality to his ability to impress him with math, which really wasn’t that impressive. Yuu just loved Kouyou in general.
Yuu was positive that Kouyou felt the same way. He didn’t know what made the other boy like him so much in the first place, but he knew Kouyou had a crush on him for a year. He didn’t need to know all the exact reasons because knowing that Kouyou loved him was enough. Nothing more needed to be said.
“What are you thinking about?” Kouyou’s voice interrupted him from his thoughts. He looked down at Kouyou’s peaceful face, his eyes closed, a small smile on his face.
Yuu smiled softly and pulled the little boy closer. “You.” His smile grew wider as Kouyou lifted his head and looked at him with a tilted head. “You’re more perfect than you could ever know. You’re cute, funny, honest, caring, and I know I can trust you. Mommy says those are all the things needed in a relationship, so I’m not worried about anything. I know you love me.”
“You’re too sweet.” Kouyou giggled and blushed a dark red and hid his face in the crook of Yuu’s neck. “Do you think we’ll still be together when we grow up?”
Yuu nodded his head and rubbed the blonde’s back. “I know we will. Do people just stop loving each other for no reason? I don’t think there’s anything you could do to make me stop feeling this way for you. I’d be surprised if we weren’t together when we get older.”
Kouyou lifted his head again and pressed their lips together quickly, blushing even harder once he realized what he did. “Gomen~”
“Don’t apologize.” Yuu laughed loudly, “I’m you boyfriend. You’re supposed to kiss me. I kiss you, don’t I?” Kouyou nodded his head slowly with a sheepish smile.
The song came to an end and the two of them walked back to the table to get more punch, and Kouyou wanted cookies because they were chocolate chip. Kouyou loved chocolate chip. Yuu had wandered off to find Shin and Yutaka because they had been missing in the mass of kids, so Kouyou continued to eat cookies and hum to himself until Yuu got back, but things didn’t always go his way.
At least not when Takashi and Aki walked up to him with grins. Kouyou knew they were still mad because they couldn’t do anything at the park because Yuu was there to stop them. Now Yuu was off in the crowd of kids, and the two of them were standing so they were blocking his view if he did look over at the table. Kouyou wasn’t afraid of Takashi, though. Aki was a whole other story because he had a reputation. Kouyou was sure that was the only reason Takashi was friends with him.
They looked at him without saying a word, and Kouyou just stood there drinking his punch and chewing his cookies. He wasn’t going to say anything to them because he knew they were waiting for it, so he just stayed quiet and acted like they weren’t even though. It was nearly impossible to do that, but he made sure he didn’t make any sort of eye contact that could make one of them snap, more than likely Aki.
“…and then Yutaka fell over in front of one of the big kids. I thought it was funny, but he said I was stupid and made me help him up. It’s not my fault he’s clumsy, right?” Shin’s voice was heard over the sound of the music. Kouyou smiled to himself and smirked at Takashi because Shin’s voice meant Yuu was close, and Yuu wouldn’t let anything happen to him. Even if they were blocking him, Yuu still knew where he was standing.
“Shut up!” Yutaka’s voice was heard next. “Those big kids could have tried to kill me, and you were just laughing!” Shin was laughing, and Yuu was also laughing, but all the laughing stopped when they stopped at the table.
Kouyou grinned back at the two kids looking at him because he knew Yuu was standing on the other side of the table behind him. They weren’t going to be able to do anything, once again.
“Get away from him before I make you.” Yuu crawled under the table so he was standing in front of his boyfriend. Kouyou couldn’t help but giggle at him for his action because he could have walked around the table instead.
The two boys looked at each other and rolled their eyes. Yuu didn’t beat them up the last time they tried to beat up Kouyou, and he didn’t look like he was going to try anything this time. If anything he’d just run away again, right?
Wrong.
Yuu knew they weren’t going to move, so telling them to was just a waste of his breath. He wasn’t going to make them think he was weak, not even when they were trying to test his limits by taking a step forward. No, he jumped on both of them and began punching the both, which was kind of amusing for anyone who was watching. Of course Kouyou didn’t find it too amusing like the laughing Shin and Yutaka. Yuu could get hurt, and that wasn’t funny at all.
“Yuu~” He whined and tried to pull him back, but Yutaka held him back so he wouldn’t get hit by accident. “Yuu, stop.” But the little boy shook his head and continued to fight even though he knew he’d probably get in trouble for fighting. The sound of his fists hitting the two boys were just barely heard above the music, but Kouyou didn’t want to hear it. He didn’t want Yuu to get in trouble and get suspended because school was no fun without him, and he wouldn’t get to see him as often.
He was getting tired of watching Yuu fight, and he was tired of Yutaka holding him back, so he reached forward and grabbed Yuu’s arm that was ready to strike Aki again. “I want to go dance.” The little boy spoke with gritted teeth. Yuu must have gotten the point that Kouyou didn’t like to see him fight because he climbed off the two boys, but not without glaring at them first.
Kouyou dragged him back to the dance floor and glared at him with a finger pointed in his face. “You are not to fight anymore, understood?” He wiggled his finger as Yuu went crossed eyed from looking at it.
“Yes, Kouyou.” Yuu mumbled, but Kouyou continued to lecture him, which was kind of cute, to be honest.
“You could get in trouble and suspended, or even worse, hurt. What would I do if you got hurt? Aki isn’t someone to mess with, Yuu. He could really, really, hurt you and you know it.” The little boy pouted when Yuu began chuckling to himself and held his finger up to Kouyou’s lips.
“I’ll stop fighting if it makes you happy, but if those two try to do anything to you I’m going to go back on my word and beat them up. I only do it so you don’t get hurt.”
“But what about you? What happens if you get hurt?!” Kouyou slapped Yuu on the arm and glared.
“Then I get hurt and you can take care of me. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work? When one of us gets hurt, we take care of one another?” The dark-haired boy slipped his hands around the other boy’s waist and tilted his head. “But I won’t get hurt. I’m Yuu, remember?” Yuu flashed his boyfriend a cute smile. Kouyou opened his mouth to argue again, but shut his mouth knowing there was no way Yuu would accept an excuse after that.
A few minutes later Yuu poked the other little boy in the side and bit his lip as if he was contemplating on what he wanted to say. Talking to Kouyou was never difficult, but for some reason he just didn’t know how he wanted to start his statement. The blonde wouldn’t laugh at him or look at him like he was stupid, but he would squeal and jump on him. But then again Kouyou did that most of the time anyways.
“I was thinking, actually I have been for awhile. We have to stay together forever and ever. So unlike some people we know, I’m not going to force you to stay with me. I want you to choose how long you want to be with me because at least then I know you’re not bored with me.” He tapped his fingers on the small of Kouyou’s back. “Even though I know you’ll always like me, and I’ll always like you, and there’s nothing we need to worry about, I still feel like I should ask you to stay with me. I know your mommy and daddy, and more then likely your sisters know all about me, but my mommy and daddy don’t know about you like Tomo-nii does. They think you’re just my friend, but I don’t want them to think of you like that. I’m going to ask them if you can come over for dinner and stay the night, again, because I want to tell them about us. They have to get used to the idea of us because,” Yuu stopped and bit his lip again.
“Because what?” Kouyou played with the side of Yuu’s hat --thankfully the hat was secured by a rubber band so it didn’t fall off earlier during the fight.
“Well, I wanted to talk to you when there weren’t so many people around, but after seeing how upset you were last night, I decided to talk to you about it today.” Yuu let out a deep breath and straightened himself up. “What I wanted to ask was… will you… marry me?” He smiled a nervous smile and looked at the wide-eyed boy in front of him who wasn’t saying a word.
Seconds turned into minutes as Yuu looked at Kouyou waiting for an answer. He expected Kouyou to have him on the floor mauling his face off already, but the little boy was just looking at him with wide-eyes and a slightly open mouth. Either he was just shocked or he really didn’t want to marry Yuu.
“But if it’s too soon we can wait.” Yuu tilted his head to the side and shook Kouyou thinking that would make him move a bit.
Kouyou looked down at his feet, and Yuu looked across the gym, missing the little smile that began creeping onto Kouyou’s lips.
“We haven’t been together for long.” Yuu continued to talk. “And my parents were together for awhile before they got married.”
“Are you done talking now?” Kouyou looked up and smiled his swooning smile that always made Yuu blush or look away. “I was just thinking about it, I didn’t mean I wouldn’t say yes. Y’know, as the bride I have a lot of planning to do. I have to get my bridesmaids, and find the perfect dress, and find a big church-”
“Why don’t we skip all that?” Kouyou looked at Yuu as if he were stupid. “What I mean is, why don’t we just get married right now? If Yutaka could marry Takanori and Akira he can marry us. I even have the rings.”
“You already have rings?” Kouyou blinked as Yuu reached into his pockets to grab the jewelry.
“Yeah, I got them the other day.” He explained with a giggle. “Mommy took me to the store and I saw these cuppycakes that reminded me of you! So I had her get them for me. I told her I was going to have you over so you could eat some with me, but I ended up eating two so there’s four left. See, they’re little heart-shaped rings with Hello Kitty on them!”
Kouyou giggled as Yuu held up the rings, and sure enough they were heart-shaped and had Hello Kitty on them. It was a win-win because Kouyou liked both of those things.
“Lets go grab Yutaka and make him speed-marry us. I don’t want to wait any longer, and after school when you get changed out of your costume, ask if you can come to my house, or just have your fairies poof you over. We have to have our honeymoon dinner and I already told my mommy to make something really nice tonight because I was having someone over. I even told her to get out the fancy chopsticks. You should actually ask your mommy if you can spend the night! We can play video games and play with sparklers, and eat cuppycakes just like on real honeymoons!” Yuu tightened his grip on Kouyou and pulled him closer. He was so excited because not only would they be married, but they’d be able to stay together through the night. Since they’d be married, they’d have to get used to living together anyways, which meant Yuu had to get a job so he and Kouyou could move out and he could support them. That’s what married couples did.
“I’ll dress extra nice and have Naoyuki do my hair real pretty. Since you want me to stay, I’ll ask my mommy to take me to your house.” Kouyou smiled brightly and looked around the gym for Yutaka, which really wasn’t too hard considering he was still at the table drinking punch with Shin.
“Should we ask him now?” He turned back to Yuu with a smile, and Yuu nodded happily, pulling his boyfriend in the direction of their friend.
