Chapter: 15/?
Synopsis: It was no secret that Takashima Kouyou was a weird kid, no, everyone knew that and most people found it comical. Of all the little kids in Mrs. Yamaguchi’s first grade class, Kouyou was the most peculiar and had the least friends mainly because no one wanted to be near the kid who was convinced he had magical fairies in his book bag. It wasn’t just his imagination either, oh no, they were real fairies and Kouyou knew it. He spoke of them all the time and as long as no one ever saw them, and told someone of their appearance, they would never disappear. All the other little kids thought he was just crazy, even his two best friends, but he knew he was telling the truth, and that was all that mattered to him.

Kouyou stood stiff with his face screwed up in discomfort. Ugh, the feeling of wrinkled lips all over his face felt weird. He had to fight to keep himself from saying something rude, squealing, or trying to get out of his grandmother’s grasp. The only problem with her showing up was that she kissed him all over his face and left red lipstick behind. Her lipstick almost always stained his white skin and left him looking like a tomato until his mother scrubbed his face clean.

“You’re growing up so fast!” His grandmother held him at arms length and smiled in delight. Every time she showed up she said the same thing to him: he was growing up so fast, he was getting so tall, and he was getting even more handsome. Each time she would pull him close to her chest and hug him tighter than he wanted to be hugged.

“Isn’t he just a handsome young man, Arata?” She looked over at her husband who stepped closer and shooed his wife away. His wife always hogged the kids when they visited.

“Why don’t you go talk to the girls while I talk to Kouyou. Y’know so we can have a man to man conversation.” Kouyou’s grandfather picked his grandson up and took him outside to the front porch. At his own home, he was always found sitting on his front porch and watching the neighborhood around him.

Kouyou sat on his grandfather’s lap and kicked his feet slowly so he didn’t accidentally kick his grandfather instead.

“Anything new, Kouyou?” His grandfather asked, his arms wrapping around the boy’s waist while bounced his legs up and down, causing the small boy to laugh happily. Kouyou and his grandfather always spent their time together. Maybe it was because Kouyou was the only grandson, or maybe it was because Kouyou didn’t like to be near his grandmother because she couldn’t stop pinching his cheeks and calling him cute.

“Yup!” Kouyou nodded with his eyes closed. He placed his hands over his grandfather’s hands and continued to giggle as his grandfather bounced his legs up and down faster.

Mr. Takashima waited for his grandson to elaborate, but little Kouyou just continued to laugh and smile without making any indication that he was going to say something else.

“You going to tell me?” He asked slowly as if he was trying to make each word absorb in the kid’s head.

“Yeah.” Kouyou answered and continued to laugh.

“Any time soon?” His grandfather leaned forward to look at Kouyou’s face.

“Yeah.” Kouyou answered again until he turned his head to see his grandfather so close and screamed. “Don’t do that, Ojiisan! What if Yuu heard me scream and thought I was in trouble? And then he’d come flying through the air like Superman and come to the rescue, but then he’d have it all wrong and you’d get hurt because Yuu said he’d protect me.” The little boy began ranting.

“Who is Yuu?” Mr. Takashima was completely confused. Unlike his son’s family, he didn’t know the so-called greatness that was Shiroyama Yuu. That was probably due to the fact he didn’t see his grandkids every day, and maybe it was a good thing that he didn’t see them that often because Kouyou would more than likely become annoying with all the Yuu rants.

“My boyfriend.” Kouyou shrugged and moved his head from side to side as if he were listening to music. He began humming to himself before he broke out into song, which was so brutally butchered that his grandfather didn’t even know what he was saying.

“Boyfriend?” Kouyou held up a finger, hopping off his grandfather’s lap and turning to he was standing in front of him.

“Yes. I had to work real hard to get him, but now he’s all~ mine.” Kouyou nodded. “Hey Ojiisan, do you think I can be like Oikawa Mitsuhiro?” The child asked with all seriousness.

“You’re a bit ADD aren’t you?” Mr. Takashima stood up and motioned for his grandson to follow him back into the house. “I guess if you try hard enough, you can be like him but in which sense? Acting or singing?”

“I don’t like acting. I like singing, but Akira says I’m really bad at it.” Kouyou crossed his arms while he walked.

“Well, then you should try your best and prove him wrong. You can do anything if you set your mind to it, and don’t listen to that Suzuki boy. How many times do I have to tell you he’s not good for you? Didn’t you see how he ruined Mrs. Matsumoto’s flowers? Little brat trampled all over them. Flowers are meant to be taken care of and admired. Kid must have been jealous.”

“No, he just likes to be mean sometimes.” Kouyou walked into the living room where his mother was sitting in a chair looking as if she could explode. He knew how much she hated to see her in-laws; not so much her father-in-law. At least Kouou’s grandfather was nice while his grandmother was a bit over the top and nosey.

For two hours Kouyou sat with his mother while his father spoke animatedly to his parents. After she wasn’t included in any conversations for at least an hour and a half, she decided to get dinner started so she didn’t have to listen to her mother-in-law complain later. Of course, Kouyou waddled along after to her because he was just as annoyed by all the talking as she was. Grown up talk was just obnoxious and made no sense at all.

Once inside the kitchen, Mrs. Takashima helped her son up on the counter and then she began going through the pantry, cabinets, and refrigerator to find something to cook. There was nothing too appealing to her, and if she was going to cook she had to like it. She didn’t care what everyone else wanted.

“Kouyou, could help Mommy make dinner?” She tilted her head to the side as her son played with his fingers. As bad as it sounded, if Kouyou helped her in-laws couldn’t say anything bad about dinner.

Kouyou thought for a moment. He never made dinner before, but with his mother’s help it couldn’t be that hard, and Yuu helped his mommy all the time so it had to be easy. If Yuu could do it, he could do it too.

“Okay!” He smiled and reached for his mother. “But first let me change my shirt so I don’t get this one dirty.” His mother helped him off the counter and he ran off to his room as quickly as he could.

---

“SHINJI!” Naoyuki was floating in the middle of the room with a red face and a belt in his hand. “YOU GET OUT HERE RIGHT NOW OR I’LL MAKE IT TWICE AS BAD!”

“NO!” Shinji yelled from somewhere in the room. “If I do, you’re going to hurt me!”

“Well no shit, Sherlock!” Naoyuki rolled his eyes. “Now get out here before I do something I’ll regret later.”

“No.”

Kouyou massaged his temples and sighed heavily. They were more childish them him, it seemed. “NAOYUKI!” He yelled, waving his arms around in the air to get the attention of the older fairy.

“Oh, hello Kouyou. What brings you up here while your grandparents are still here?” The fairy kneeled down in front of his godchild with a bright smile while attempting to hide the belt behind his back the best he could. He didn’t want the kid to know he had full intentions of beating the stupidity out of Shinji.

“I need to change my shirt so I can help Mommy with dinner.” The little boy walked to his closet and pulled off his shirt. “While I do that, could you see if Yuu is busy? I need help. I don’t know what to help Mommy make!” He grabbed a black shirt with Spiderman on it while Naoyuki disappeared in a puff of smoke.

“Is he gone?” Kouyou giggled as Shinji’s frightened voice sounded through the room. It was obvious that the fairy was hiding under the bed.

“For now, but he won’t be gone for too long, I don’t think.” Kouyou pulled the shirt over his head and fixed his hair. “And Shinji?”

“Hmm?”

“Why isn’t my room clean yet? I asked you to clean it without using magic.” Kouyou walked to the bed, leaned down, and stared at the fairy that was curled up in a ball with a flashlight.

“I was starting to clean when he noticed there were still some parakeets flying around, but I just didn’t see them. He got mad at me and decided he’d be a big brat and try to kill me. I’m not that stupid though. I know how to hide.” Shinji giggled to himself.

“I’m sure you’re not.” Kouyou rolled his eyes and stood back up.

“SHH!” Shinji shrank back so he was close to the wall. “Nao’s coming back! Act normal like I’m not even here.”

And sure enough, Nao had returned with a little boy holding an ice cream cone. The fairy clapped his hands and smiled brightly. “Alright! Now you two talk about whatever it is you wanted to talk about. I have a moron to find, if you will excuse me.” He looked around the room and scratched his head.

“Okay, Naoyuki.” Kouyou smiled, pointing at the bed with a grin. “Yuu and I will just go over here by my toy box and have a nice little talk while you ‘find’ Shinji.” Naoyuki grinned evilly and stalked closer to the bed while the two little boys went to the toy box.

“KOUYOU!!”

Yuu looked over at the bed with a raised eyebrow, “Wasn’t supposed to tell him where he was hiding?” He watched as the blonde shook his head with a shrug.

“No, but after what he did I couldn’t help it and my room still isn’t clean.” Kouyou sat himself down on the box and motioned for Yuu to sit next to him.

“So, what did you need?” The dark-haired boy sat down and licked his ice cream.

“Mommy wants me to help her with dinner, so I need help to pick something to make.” Yuu knew everything about cooking, right? He had to: Yuu was the smart one in their relationship.

Yuu hummed and licked his lips while he held out his ice cream cone. “Want a lick?” Kouyou nodded happily and leaned forward to lick the ice cream cone. “So anyways, I’m assuming your grandparents are still here, right? Make something good like temaki sushi with yakisoba, and for drinks have green tea. If you want, I can help you guys. I’m not doing anything at home. Daddy’s done helping Obaachan, so I’m free now.”

And that was how the two boys ended up in the kitchen while two fairies duked it out upstairs. Mrs. Takashima was delighted to see Yuu, and to have his help. For a little kid, he knew what he was doing in the kitchen. The only downfall was Kouyou wasn’t really working too much because he was too busy staring at the other boy. It didn’t take long for dinner to get done.

Everyone was seated around the table; Kouyou next to Yuu who he forced to stay. “If we’re going to be together, you have to meet my family.” was Kouyou’s way of getting his friend to stay with him.

Dinner was spent in silence between Yuu and Kouyou while the grown ups spoke to one another. It was safe to say the kids were bored out of their minds. Kouyou ate with his head propped up on his palm, and Yuu kept his gaze on his food: Kouyou’s grandparents were staring at him like he had twenty heads.

“So tell me, Kouyou, how did you meet your little friend?” Kouyou’s grandmother smiled brightly at her grandson as she put her chopsticks down.

Kouyou swallowed the food in his mouth and looked over at his friend. “We met in kindergarten, but we didn’t become friends until this year. By the way, he‘s not my friend. He‘s my boyfriend, so keep your wrinkly mitts off him.” He watched Yuu stifle a laugh and blush. No one should ever talk to their elders like that, but Kouyou didn’t seem to have any limits.

“Well, I never!” His grandmother looked at her grandson in disbelief.

“Seriously, look down. Your hands are wrinkly!” Kouyou shrugged as his grandfather began laughing.

“He’s right! You do have pretty wrinkly hands.” He laughed as Kouyou began laughing. Kouyou and his grandfather were too much alike sometimes in the sense that they both loved to pick on Mrs. Takashima.

“You do too! In fact, you’re older!” The elderly woman argued back.

“Older but younger looking.” The older man held a finger up in the air with a smirk.

After fifteen minutes of arguing between elderly people and silence between everyone else. Kouyou’s father cleared his throat and began talking about his job and how he had to go on a business trip soon. The adults began talking again and Kouyou was getting bored.

“Yuu, do you want to go back to my room?” He asked with a sigh. All the grown up talk was making him tired, and he’d much rather go up to his room and take a nap than finish his dinner and listen to his family talk.

“Mhmm.” Yuu nodded and hopped off his chair, holding his hand out for Kouyou to grasp. They sneaked out of the room quietly and ran all the way up the stairs to Kouyou’s room. Unfortunately, the room looked like a battlefield. Instead of cleaning the room like he was told, Shinji used magic and turned it into a scene from a video game. Naoyuki was driving a tank while Shinji was in a helicopter. Kouyou let go of Yuu’s hand and clutched his fists at his side and did the only thing that would get the attention of two major morons.

He screamed blood murder.

The tank slowly stopped shooting at the helicopter, and the helicopter stopped flying around in circles, but only for a moment. The two fairies realized they weren’t alone anymore and refused to be anywhere that Kouyou could get to them.

“GET OUT OF THOSE RIGHT NOW!” Kouyou screamed, his eyes full of anger and hatred. It was hard to make Kouyou mad, but when he did get mad, everyone better watch out.

“Why don’t you come to my house until they stop?” Yuu stood behind the blonde with his arms around his waist. “I just got my costume. Do you want to see it? It’ll help you pick your costume.” He knew Kouyou wanted them to go as something that went together, but the suggestion didn’t make Kouyou calm down.

“I SWEAR IF YOU TWO DON’T GET OVER HERE RIGHT NOW I’M CALLING AKIRA AND HE’LL FINALLY SEE WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE!” The little boy yelled, marching toward the tank since it was closer to him.

“You wouldn’t really do that.” Yuu followed the little boy and grabbed him by the arm. “If you did that, you’d lose your fairies because he can’t keep his mouth shut. What would you do if you lost your fairies? How would you get everything you need that you can’t ask your parents how?”

“I’d have a clean room, and I wouldn’t have to worry about people walking in to see this. That has to count for something.” Kouyou snapped back.

Above, Shinji was biting his lip and lowered the helicopter. “He’s right.” The fairy waved his wand around in the air and the room was back to normal, and sparkly clean. “We’re supposed to set an example for him. We’re suppose to teach him right from wrong alongside his parents. We shouldn’t be arguing and turning his room into a war zone.”

“You’re only saying that because you don’t want Akira to find out about you!” Kouyou turned around and crossed his arms over his chest.

“We’re not afraid of Akira finding out about us. Even if Akira did tell someone what we look like and we had to go away, we’d still be around to keep an eye on you.” Naoyuki sighed. He usually didn’t get out of hand. He was supposed to be the mature one.

“Right.” Kouyou rolled his eyes. “I’m tired and Yuu’s parents don’t know he’s here. Take him back home while I go to sleep. I want you,” he pointed to Naoyuki, “to help Yuu pick out a costume for me, and I want you,” he pointed at Shinji, “to make it up to me.”

With that, Kouyou plopped himself down on his bed and covered his head with a pillow. Yuu walked over to the bed while the two fairies looked down at their feet.

“Are you sure you want me to go? I can stay a little longer, if you want.” Yuu sat on the side of the bed and rubbed Kouyou’s back. He didn’t want to leave Kouyou while he was so angry and frustrated.

“Go. You can pick my costume, and I’ll see you at school in the morning.” Kouyou muttered from beneath the pillow.

“Alright, then I’ll see you tomorrow.” The older boy grabbed the pillow and smiled at the fuming boy who turned to look at him. “Tomorrow will be much better, trust me.”

“Why?” Kouyou blinked his eyes, watching as Yuu shrugged with a knowing smile on his face. It was obvious that he wasn’t going to say a word.

“You’ll have to wait.” The boy leaned down to press their lips together before he pulled away and hopped off the bed, leaving a wide-eyed Kouyou behind. “I’m ready to go, Naoyuki.” With a poof, the two of them were gone and Kouyou sat up slowly.

“He… kissed me… ON THE LIPS!” Kouyou squealed. “Shinji, mark this day on the calendar!”

1. This is a bit late. I couldn't put down my PSP down.. I was in a really good part of my game. lmao. Sorry. If chapters get slow, that's why. xD But I always try to write a chapter a day, so there shouldn't be large gaps between chapters. This also isn't beta'd.
2. Kouyou's grandfather is based off my grandfather.
3. Oikawa Mitsuhiro is an actor and singer.
