Chapter: 14/?
Synopsis: It was no secret that Takashima Kouyou was a weird kid, no, everyone knew that and most people found it comical. Of all the little kids in Mrs. Yamaguchi’s first grade class, Kouyou was the most peculiar and had the least friends mainly because no one wanted to be near the kid who was convinced he had magical fairies in his book bag. It wasn’t just his imagination either, oh no, they were real fairies and Kouyou knew it. He spoke of them all the time and as long as no one ever saw them, and told someone of their appearance, they would never disappear. All the other little kids thought he was just crazy, even his two best friends, but he knew he was telling the truth, and that was all that mattered to him.
“Shhh. He still looks tired. Don’t wake him up~” Kouyou spoke as quietly as he could so he wouldn’t wake his friend who he still didn’t wish back to his own home. What would be the point of that if he wanted to spend time with him? He’d just have to wish him back again in the long run, so keeping him would be easier.
“But what do you think he’ll say when wakes up and finds out he’s here?” Shinji whispered back. The last thing he wanted was to deal with a screaming little kid; he did that enough on a daily basis.
“He’ll be delighted to wake up next to me! Just you watch!” Kouyou propped his head up on his palm and watched the boy sleep. He smiled at the way Yuu’s mouth was slightly open, and his head rested on one of his hands. His hair had fallen over the side of his face obscuring Kouyou’s view, and he gently ran his fingers through the dark locks to get them out of the way. Yuu was so cute and innocent when he slept; so unlike the boy everyone at school knew. Kouyou was probably one of the few kids who was allowed to see that side of the boy, and even he probably wasn’t supposed to see it since Yuu didn’t know he wasn’t in his room anymore.
“Isn’t he cute?” He mused and smiled sweetly. Behind him two fairies were rolling their eyes and shaking their heads. Kouyou’s fascination with Yuu was amusing, even after he had made it known more than once how much he liked the other boy. They were pretty sure they’d still be like that even after the grew up and became adults. Even if they couldn’t be around that long, they were sure Kouyou would find a way to get Yuu whenever he wanted; he just couldn’t wish for it.
“Yes, he’s very cute. If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to head to Fairy World for a little bit. I haven’t had my morning coffee, but Shinji will stay here in case you need anything, he’ll send Yuu back home after he wakes up.” Naoyuki stood up and waved his wand around the air. It was just like Naoyuki to leave when Shinji didn’t want to be somewhere, and the coffee excuse always worked because he wasn’t very pleasant unless he had it.
Yuu slept silently while Kouyou watched, much to Shinji’s delight. The silence in the room was a real change from the usual noise of a certain blonde and a bickering fairy. It was nice to hear nothing for once. The dark-haired fairy sat on the floor playing with a kitten he pulled out of thin air. Without Naoyuki around, he could play with an animal. The other fairy didn’t like it when Shinji got pets because he never wanted a normal pet. The kitten was something he only played with when no one was paying attention. And since Naoyuki wasn’t around, he might as well do something else he never got to do.
He got a parakeet. Shinji never had a bird before. Didn’t you just have to put them in a cage and feed them? ‘A room is like a cage in the earth, right?‘ he looked at the parakeet and ran his finger along its’ back. And what did parakeets even eat? He waved his hand in the air and turned the bird invisible.
“Kouyou, just a crazy question: what do parakeets eat?” He looked up at the blonde with a tilt of his head. Kouyou seemed to know a lot, right? Not really, but he was a human so he had to know something.
“Uhm, fruity pebbles. It’s their favorite because it’s colorful. They also eat skittles, but only on Tuesdays.” Kouyou nodded matter-of-factly and turned his attention back to Yuu.
Shinji waved his hand again and the parakeet was visible again. Now all he had to do was get some fruity pebbles and his parakeet would be happy. “You got any fruity pebbles?” He shoved the bird his shirt so Kouyou wouldn’t see it. “I’ve never had any, so I just want to experience the taste buds of a parakeet. It’s a new… fairy test I have to go through.” He bit his lip as the bird pecked at his bellybutton. And Kouyou hopped off the bed and ran to the kitchen to retrieve the cereal.
Five minutes later, Kouyou was standing in the middle of the room with a raised eyebrow. Shinji sure was acting weird. Since when did Shinji actually do his fairy tests? He usually found a way to make Naoyuki so he actually passed, and Shinji never asked about parakeets before. There was something fishy going on, and Kouyou was going to find out.
“…Here’s the fruity pebbles.” He handed the red box to the fairy and looked around his room as if something was missing, or added. Nothing seemed too out of the ordinary, except that Shinji seemed to have gained a bubble of weight on his stomach. It was probably just a fairy thing though.
“Thanks. I think Yuu made a noise while you were gone. You might wanna check on him.” Shinji lied. When Kouyou crawled back on his bed, Shinji pulled the bird out from under his shirt and waved his wand around for a bowl and some milk, making a large bowl of cereal. He placed the bird on his lap and waved his wand around for a spoon.
“What’s a good parakeet name?” He muttered aloud.
“Sherman.” Kouyou answered.
“Okay!” The fairy turned his attention back to the parakeet with a grin. He got a spoon full of fruity pebbles and held the bird against his chest. “Here y’go Sherman!” He shoved the spoon into the bird’s beak with a delighted squeal.
Apparently the bird wasn’t too happy with the fruity pebbles. It began flapping its’ winds crazily and struggling to get away. Shinji shrugged and decided the bird just wanted to feed itself, so he sat the bird on the floor and folded his hands in his lap. The bird had something else in mind and began flying around the room.
“SHERMAN!” Shinji yelled. Kouyou wasn’t supposed to see the bird because then Naoyuki would find out about it. The bird continued to fly around, and then without warning it split into two birds, and then four, and then six, and before Shinji could even think the entire room was filled with parakeets.
“Shinji!” Kouyou flung himself over Yuu and pulled the blankets over them. “What is going on? Why are there a bunch of birds in my room?!” He yelled. That was around the time Yuu decided to wake up. Oh, it was fine until he opened his eyes because at first he didn’t even notice Kouyou lying on top of him. How he missed the mass of blonde hair on his shoulder was a mystery. He did notice he was covered in a blanket, so he pulled it off his body and screamed.
“WHAT IS GOING ON!” He screamed as a mass of birds flew around the room. First of all, there were birds everywhere and he hated birds. Second, he wasn’t even in his room. Why wasn’t he in his room? He looked down beside him and saw Kouyou curled up in a ball with his hands tangled in his hair. “…Kouyou, did you wish me here while I was sleeping?” He asked sweetly, but Kouyou could tell he was trying to hold back his anger.
“Mmhmm.” Kouyou nodded. “But I was scared.”
“You’re scared?! There’s flying demons in your room, and you’re scared? They’re going to eat me!” Yuu screamed and threw himself down next to Kouyou. Birds were evil. Every time he went to the pet store, the stupid parrots would try to peck him for just walking by. He didn’t understand why they weren’t in a sealed cage, or shot out of a canon to Guam.
“I’m sorry!” Kouyou wrapped his arms around Yuu’s waist. If Naoyuki hadn’t gone to Starbucks in Fairy World, Shinji would have never gotten a stupid parakeet. That was the reason Shinji wasn’t allowed to have pets, and the reason he wasn’t responsible.
“Oh stop being babies and help me catch these before Nao gets back. Who knows what he’ll do to me!” Shinji was running around the room with a net in each hand and a desperate look on his face.
“Shut up! You did this, so you’re going to fix it!” Kouyou yelled back. How was he supposed to get Naoyuki to come back? He couldn’t ask Shinji to poof him back, and he couldn’t steal Shinji’s wand. There had to be another way to get that moron in trouble, but how?
‘The emergency wand!‘ Kouyou sat up and reached for the drawer beside his bed. When he had first gotten his fairies, Naoyuki had put a wand in the drawer and said it was to be used for emergencies only. Crazy birds were an emergency, right? It must have been because Yuu had a firm grip on his waist and he wasn’t planning to let go any time soon.
Kouyou waved the wand around, “I wish Naoyuki was here now.” A huge swirling cloud formed in the middle of the room. It lit up in a rainbow of colors, and all Kouyou could do was stare. Shinji on the other hand jumped behind the television stand and tried his best to hide from his lover because he knew he was probably going to get the beating of his life, that and he wanted to get away from all the crazy birds.
The cloud grew smaller and smaller until finally Naoyuki was standing in the middle of the room with a cup of coffee in his hand. He smiled at the little boys on the bed before he even realized there were birds everywhere, and when he noticed his eyes turned into slits.
“SHINJI!” He growled, dropping his coffee to the floor and spinning on his heel to face the television stand that he knew Shinji was hiding behind. “Pardon my language, boys.“ He smiled at the boys before turning back to the television stand.
“What in sam hell is this?! Why are there so many fucking birds flying around?!” He reached behind the stand and grabbed the fairy by the shirt and yanked him out from his hiding place. “I leave for an hour to get coffee and you turn the damn room into a damn bird house. And WHY ARE THERE SO MANY?! Y’know what? I don’t even care. Get rid of all these damn bird or I’m going to beat the living daylights out of you. Don’t just look at me, get your ass moving!”
On the bed, Kouyou and Yuu were covering each other’s ears with dropped jaws. Naoyuki never spoke like that. Only mommys and daddys spoke like that, and that was only when they were really mad.
“But what am I supposed to do? Open the window?” Shinji coward into a corner with a very angry Naoyuki standing over him.
“No you don’t open the window! The last thing the neighborhood needs is a bunch of crazed, splitting, birds flying around!” Naoyuki slapped the other fairy on the head.
“Then what do I do?!” Shinji squealed, rubbing his head.
“…YOU’RE A FUCKING FAIRY!”
“Oh yeah~” Shinji stood up and laughed. “I forgot I could do magic. Y’know, this never would have happened if Kouyou didn’t tell me Sherman would eat fruity pebbles.”
“Who the hell is Sherman?” Naoyuki tapped his foot with his hands on his hips.
“My parakeet.” Shinji shrugged and grabbed his wand.
“YOU DON’T HAVE A PARAKEET. After this, I’ll make sure you can never get another animal again! Just wait until I talk to the head fairies and have them limit your magic. And don’t you try to blame this on my baby! It’s not Kouyou’s fault you’re an idiot. He’s just a child. You’re the one who made a bunch of parakeets fly around the room, now GET RID OF THEM!”
Shinji sighed deeply and waved his wand in the air. All the birds began to slowly disappear. It took at least ten minutes before the room was clear of all the birds, and Yuu was still clinging to Kouyou for dear life.
“What do you have to say for yourself? First you scare the daylights out of Kouyou by telling him a serial killer was going to kill him, and then you fill his room with birds and scare the daylights out of Yuu. I can’t leave you alone with them for a second, can I?” Naoyuki pounced on the taller fairy, sending them both to the ground where he began punching the fairy repeatedly.
“You were scared because you thought a serial killer was going to kill me?” Yuu bit his lip and smirked. He laid back down and pulled Kouyou down next to him, and covered their bodies up to the waist.
“Mmhmm. That’s why I wished you here. I didn’t want anyone to kill you…” Kouyou muttered, snuggling up to the older boy. Yuu giggled softly to himself and wrapped his arms around the small boy.
“I’m Shiroyama Yuu; no killer will be able to take me down. That’s why no one messes with me. They’re too scared of what I might do to them.” He grinned, resting his chin on the top of Kouyou’s head.
“So you’ll protect me if the serial killer comes after me? Amaterasu said one would come after me, or something like that. I don’t want to die, Yuu. If I die, I won’t be able to go with you to the dance! What if the killer is at the dance and I don’t know because everyone is in costume?” Kouyou blushed and snuggled closer.
“I won’t let anyone try to kill you either. You should really stop listening to your sisters.” Yuu chuckled and pressed his lips to the top of Kouyou’s head. “You know, I’d love to stay in bed with you all day, but I’m supposed to be going to my grandma’s house while Daddy does yard work. Could you wish me back to my house? I promise I’ll call tonight.”
Kouyou sighed and nodded. He didn’t want Yuu to go, but he also had things to do. His grandparents were coming over as well, and he had to see them so his grandfather would give him money. “Okay. Naoyuki, I wish Yuu was back in his room.” He sat up with the other boy and kissed him on the cheek before he was poofed back to his room. “And Shinji, I want you to clean my room until it sparkles without using magic. Naoyuki, I wish I had a super cute costume for the Halloween dance that Yuu will love. I also wish that I was cleaned up to see my grandparents. I have to look and smell cute.”
“And why aren’t you asking me to grant your wishes?” Shinji pouted like a child and crossed his arms over his chest.
“You’re an idiot who ruined my room and scared the crap out of my boyfriend! I’m not asking you another wish until you can prove you’re mature!” Kouyou threw a pillow at the youngest fairy and jumped of the bed as Naoyuki waved his wand.
“Now, I’m going to go wait for Obaachan and Ojiisan. You better not do anything stupid or I’m going to make Yuu beat you up!” The little boy stomped out of the room and slammed the door shut.
