Chapter: 13/?
Synopsis: It was no secret that Takashima Kouyou was a weird kid, no, everyone knew that and most people found it comical. Of all the little kids in Mrs. Yamaguchi’s first grade class, Kouyou was the most peculiar and had the least friends mainly because no one wanted to be near the kid who was convinced he had magical fairies in his book bag. It wasn’t just his imagination either, oh no, they were real fairies and Kouyou knew it. He spoke of them all the time and as long as no one ever saw them, and told someone of their appearance, they would never disappear. All the other little kids thought he was just crazy, even his two best friends, but he knew he was telling the truth, and that was all that mattered to him.
Comments: The episode of Spongebob Squarepants that Kouyou is watching is the new episode I saw yesterday, so if you haven't watched it... you should go find it on Veoh or something. xD

It was a new day, a day off school due to a teacher work day, and Kouyou wanted nothing more than to spend the day relaxing at home. The school week had been so stressful and difficult, and he just wanted to sit around and be lazy. Who knew trying to impress Yuu, and failing miserably, could be so difficult and tiring. The whole day was going to be dedicated to doing absolutely nothing, which meant none of his friends were allowed to visit --he had informed them over the phone after he woke up. Most of them didn’t even care, like Akira who told him to shut up and stop waking him up before noon or he’d come to his house and beat him to a bloody pulp. That didn’t stop him from calling a second time when he was sure Akira had fallen asleep again, y’know, just to remind him that he didn’t want anyone to come over.

Mrs. Takashima was cleaning the house from top to bottom. Apparently her in-laws were visiting the next day, and as much as she disliked them, she thought it’d be nice to make sure the house was presentable. Of course, she didn’t want them to think she as a bad wife to their son and talk about her behind her back like they seemed to do every time they were around each other. She wasn’t too excited about it because lets face it, she hated them to the point she didn’t even want them to be anywhere near her home or her children, but that wasn’t an option because her husband was excited to see his parents. Joy.

“Kouyou sweetie, could you please get your feet off the coffee table?” She pushed the boy’s little feet off the furniture and gave him a pointed look. She knew it was his day off but he was being beyond lazy. First of all, he hadn’t changed out of his night clothes: his shirt was wrinkled, his pants were sagging, his socks were dirty, and his hair was an absolute mess. It was the complete opposite of what Kouyou usually looked like. On top of that, he was slouched against the couch pillows with a bag of potato chips leaning against his side and the remote in his hand, flipping through the channels on the television for ten minutes straight.

“Yeah.” He stuffed his mouth full of chips and scratched his stomach. “I can do that, but could you be a doll and get my juice from the fridge?” His eyes never left the television screen, his hand dipping back into the potato chip bag.

“Excuse me?” His mother put her hands on her hips and looked down at him with raised eyebrows. Any of her other children would have been terrified, but Kouyou had more guts and ‘charm’. She just couldn’t punish him, and that was something she hated about herself because the boy just did whatever he wanted. Kouyou wasn’t bad most of the time, but when he decided he wanted to play by his rules, he became the most obnoxious child in the world. “I am not your maid, I am your mother. If you want your juice, you can get your little butt up and go get it yourself.”

“Listen, Toots, I’ve had a very stressful week and I want some juice.” The little boy put his feet back up on the table and burped loudly.

“First of all, excuse you. Burping is rude, and second, your week is going to get a lot worse if you don’t stop acting like that.” His mother threatened and smacked his feet off the table again, but Kouyou put them back, and she slapped them again, and again, and again, and again until she got fed up with it.

“If you put your feet back on my coffee table again one more time, I’m going to have Amaterasu hold you down while I saw them off.” She threatened with a glare. “And don’t think I won’t do it. What do you think happened to your older brother Ono? He disobeyed me and I shot him with a ray gun and evaporated him. Just ask your sisters.” She walked out of the room rubbing her hands together with a grin, and Kouyou didn’t put his feet on the table again.

“She’s just trying to scare me.” He rolled his eyes. “I don’t have an older brother.” If he had an older brother, he would know because he knew everything. His hand dipped back into the bag and he stuffed his mouth again while he turned the channel to Nickelodeon.

“Awe sweet!” He squealed. “A new episode of Spongebob! ….Shinji~ Naoyuki~” He looked around the room and hissed to his two fairies who were hiding in the room. Suddenly, the potato chip bag had the face of Naoyuki, and the remote turned into Shinji.

“What do you want?” They asked in unison.

“EEK!” Kouyou screamed and tried to scurry away. It didn’t matter how long he had his fairies; he was never going to get used to them doing stupid things like that without warning. He thought they’d maybe just appear like they usually did.

“Is something wrong sweetie?” Mrs. Takashima yelled from the kitchen.

“No, Mommy! There was a fly on my hand.” He lied and glared down at his fairies. “Warn me before you do that, and Naoyuki stop eating all my chippies!” Sometimes trying to eat around Naoyuki was difficult because he was a fairy who loved to eat… a lot.

“You’re asking for too much.” Shinji giggled. “Now what did you want?”

“I want you to watch Spongebob with me! Look! Mr. Krabs is dressed up like a pregnant lady~!” Kouyou squealed. “Look at his wig! Do you think I could pretend to be a pregnant lady and go to an arcade like that?”

“Heh, we could just turn your into a pregnant woman-”

“SHINJI! Don’t put stupid ideas in his head! Lord knows that boy comes up with enough stupid wishes on his own, and before you ask now we won’t turn you into a pregnant woman.“ Naoyuki tried to glare, but a bag of potato chips wasn’t very intimidating and Kouyou wasn’t even paying attention to him; he was too busy trying to eat all the chips before Naoyuki finished them.

Pretty soon the blonde was too absorbed in the television show that he didn’t even notice anything around him: the squeal Shinji let out, the sound of his mother running through the room, the puff of smoke surrounding him, or the presence beside him. That sponge was too entertaining to look away from, apparently, because Kouyou was completely zoned out into the world of Bikini Bottom.

Nudge.

Poke.

Slap.

Punch.

“KOU~YOU!!” The little boy in question held up his hand and slowly turned his head to the side to face the person beside him. He wasn’t too pleased to see someone sitting next to him since he told everyone to leave him alone, and he wasn’t too happy to see it was none other than Yuu. Sure~ he loved Yuu more than chocolate pie, but it was his day off and he hadn’t even gotten ready for the day and he looked like a mess. Kouyou’s eyes grew wide as he grabbed a pillow and squealed more loud than humanly possible.

“YUU?!“ He peeked over the pillow and laughed nervously. “W-what are you doing here? I thought I told you not to come over today!”

“Quit screaming. Man, if I didn’t know any better I’d think you were a girl.” The dark-haired boy stifled a laugh behind his hand.

“I look horrible! I haven’t even gotten dressed, and my hair is a mess, and I look like a slob!” Kouyou shoved his face in the pillow and let out an over exaggerated sigh.

“You look fine to me. I didn’t know you slept in jeans and Doraemon shirt. It’s cute though, if you do, I guess. And since when does a person wake up with perfect hair? Even I don’t look that good after I get out of bed.” Yuu waved his hand in the air. “You might want to thank your fairies.” He giggled.

Kouyou blushed and tossed the pillow at his friend, “That doesn’t explain why you’re here!” He glared at the little boy who had caught the pillow and scooted closer to him so they were side by side.

“Well~” Yuu pursed his lips and held Kouyou’s hand in his own, “you probably weren’t paying attention to Mrs. Yamaguchi yesterday, but she said there’s going to be a Halloween dance in the gym for the kindergarten through third graders. And I know you said not to come over and bother you because you were, ahem, ‘relaxing’, but I forgot to mention it on the phone and I would forget before the dance, so will you go with me?” His cheeks flushed a deep red as he turned his gaze to the coffee table.

“But we’ll both already be there… so wouldn’t I be going with you anyways?” Kouyou tilted his head to the side.

“Well, yeah, but I mean… will you be my date? Takanori and Akira said you have to have a date to go to a dance, and since we’re kinda… you know… I thought we should go together.” His blush grew darker as Kouyou finally caught and grinned the biggest grin he’s ever seen.

Kouyou inwardly squealed in delight as he leaned his head on Yuu’s shoulder. “OF COURSE I’LL BE YOUR DATE!” He smiled excitedly. What a better way to make it official than to go to a dance together as dates. Everyone was going to be so jealous of them because they were going to be one of those exclusive couples, or at least that‘s what they were in his mind. They were even more exclusive than Takanori and Akira, even though they were married and Kouyou and Yuu weren’t. ‘Yet.‘ Kouyou grinned to himself.

“Good,” Yuu squeezed Kouyou’s hand with a smile. “then I’ll let you get back to your ‘relaxing’. Mommy’s waiting for me in the car. I asked if we could stop by really quick so I could ask you something. I better go before she starts to get mad and leaves.” He giggled and leaned forward to press his lips to Kouyou’s cheek. “I’ll see you later, Kouyou.”

Yuu hopped off the couch and ran to the door to put his shoes on, only to turn around and wink at a blushing Kouyou, and then he was out the door. From the stairs, Midori burst out laughing and slid down the banister. Those two were just too cute and childish. They didn’t even know how to act around each other, which only made it better.

“That was adorable.” She ruffled her brother’s hair as she walked around the couch and plopped herself down beside him. Kouyou crossed his arms and puffed out his cheeks. Obviously he wasn’t happy that she was eavesdropping on him the whole time.

“Shut up!” He pushed her as hard as he could, but she hardly even budged. “I don’t bother you when you have boys over, so why do you bother me when Yuu is here?!” He slammed his hand down on the arm of the couch.

“That’s because I don’t bring many boys over, duh.” She grabbed the bag of chips and began eating them. “And Tomo-san and I have a bet going on. You just helped me win because he said his little brother wouldn’t kiss you, and I said he would because no one could resist you.” She pinched his cheek. “Looks like Tomo owes me money.”

Kouyou slapped his sister and glared. Not only was she eavesdropping, but she was also making bets about him and Yuu? He balled his hands into fists and turned to face the kitchen. “MOMMY!” He screamed. He was going to do the one thing he didn’t like to do: tattle on Midori.

“So,” Mr. Takashima put his chopsticks down and looked around the table at his family. It was one of his days off, and he wanted to have a nice dinner with his family since he rarely ever got to spend time with them. He helped his wife cook and played with his kids when he had a chance to, and now he was tired and wanted to just talk. “Anything going on in your lives that I don’t know about?” He aimed the question more towards Kouyou because he knew something had happened just from the smile Kouyou had been wearing all day.

“Yuu asked me to the Halloween dance! I have to get a costume, Daddy, so will you take me to the store later so I can get one?” Kouyou shoved his face full of food and smiled sheepishly. He knew it was rude to talk with a mouth full of food, but he decided he didn’t really care since he was hungry and wanted to talk at the same time.

“Oh he did?” Mr. Takashima patted his son on the head, “Wasn’t that nice of him? We’ll go to the store as soon as we help Mommy with the dishes. Any idea what you want to go as?”

Kouyou shook his head and continued to stuff his face full. “I don’t know yet. I don’t want to be anything scary.” If he looked too scary, he might scare Yuu away, and that wouldn’t be very fun in the end.

“Halloween is about being scary.” Amaterasu spoke up, “You can’t prance around like a princess and expect people to take you seriously. You gotta be like one of those nice serial killers.”

“What’s a cereal killer?” Kouyou looked at his father in confusion. “Am I a cereal killer? I eat cereal when I wake up.”

“No that’s cereal like the food.” Mr. Takashima laughed.

“I mean serial killer as in the people who stand outside your window holding a knife and waiting for you to fall asleep so they can climb through your window and KILL YOU!” Amaterasu laughed hysterically. “You’re never safe, and you never know when they’re going to get you; that’s what makes them so scary.”

“DADDY!” Kouyou dropped his chopsticks and squealed.

“AMATERASU!” Mrs. Takashima stood up from her seat and crouched down beside her son. “You know he’s just a little kid. He gets scared easily, and telling him someone is going to kill is going to make him too afraid to go to sleep.”

“His fault he believes me.” Amaterasu shrugged and went back to eating her dinner. Kouyou on the other hand stayed perfectly still.

“On second thought, I don’t want to go shopping for a costume. I’ll just borrow something from Takanori.” There was no way Kouyou was going to go outside where the serial killers were. If he died, he’d never get to go to the dance with Yuu. He’d just wish for a costume and say he got it from Takanori. His parents would never think twice about it. Now his biggest problem was keeping the killers away so he could get to the dance.

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

Kouyou pulled the blankets up to his chin and snuggled closer to the body next to him. There was no way he was going to sleep by himself, so he made Shinji and Naoyuki sleep on either side of him. They wouldn’t let anyone hurt him. It was one of the rules: No Godparent should ever let someone harm their godchild. But just incase, he kept them close. His left hand reached behind him ad grabbed Naoyuki’s hand, while his head rested on Shinji’s chest, much to the fairies dismay.

“No one is out there plotting to kill you.” Shinji muttered sleepily. “It’s really hard to sleep with you moving all the time.” Kouyou just couldn’t stay still. For the past two hours he had tossed and turned, sat up and pulled the blanket closer to his body, made his fairies check the room, and demanded they looked outside his window.

“You don’t know that!” Kouyou squeaked.

“Who knows, maybe they’re after Yuu instead.” Shinji yawned, only to get kicked under the blankets.

“SHINJI!” Naoyuki yelled. “Don’t tell him things like that! He’s already scared to death.”

“DEATH?!” Kouyou pulled the blankets over his head and rolled up in a ball.

“No, no, no, honey! You’re perfectly safe.” Naoyuki pulled the little boy into his arms. “As for you, Shinji, I’m going to hurt you as soon as he goes to sleep.”

“Have you ever noticed that whenever I offer my opinion on something, you always say ‘SHINJI!’ and tell me not to do something?” Shinji sat up and patted the little boy under the blankets on the back.

“That’s because you say horrible things and you’re mean.” Naoyuki stuck his tongue out.

“I just speak the truth. Yuu’s probably backed into a corner with a killer leaning over him.” He smirked. Oh, he knew he was just making Naoyuki mad, but it’d pay off later when Kouyou was out playing with one of his friends.

“I WISH YUU WAS HERE!” Kouyou screamed, his eyes screwed shut, and his hands clutching the blankets so hard they were making crescents on his palms.

“Now look what you did.” Naoyuki waved his wave around in the air, and Yuu was lying in the bed next to Kouyou, curled up in a ball and fast asleep. “See? He’s fine. No killer.”

“I don’t care, now get out of my bed so he doesn’t freak out.” Kouyou shooed his fairies away.

“He’s going to be freaked out when he wakes up in a bed next to you, and he’ll be even more freaked out when he finds out he’s in your room instead of his own.” Shinji shrunk himself down and poofed himself into the crayon box. Kouyou’s eraser was more comfortable than his bed anyways.

A/N: If you want to compare Kouyou's grin to anything, it'd look just like this except cuter.
