What does one wear to a traditional 12+ course, Norwegian Christmas eve dinner with the boyfriend's entire family present

Um, well a Norwegian Christmas, like in my family, We dress up, like a pretty dress and stuff. A black dress will do I think... Oh dear. I really want to help, but I'm afraid I'm not much of any help. Colours are good, I think. Question is, what is he wearing? Will he be in a suit? Cause then I think your formal dress will do.

Why don't you dress down one of your dresses? Maybe get different shoes or jewellery? Have fun! (Do your parents know about him yet?)
