At the moment, I can't imagine any rural roads in North America which, if you happen to take a wrong turn, leads to a city like this one. As for the ticking, it won't stop until you are near a companion. Animals help greatly...but people really stp the ticking.

A simple and effective method, really. It can do plenty to one's nerves in a short amount of time, even if I'm not bothered by it at the moment. Ticking...it's an ominous sound, is it not?
