In honor of VJ day you should watch Grave of the Fireflys.

I did that one year, actually, on VJ day. I think everyone should see that movie. But I'm not sure I could watch it again, it's so incredibly sad.

Actually, to really make the most of the horribleness of this holiday, we should watch The Fog of War, where MacNamara tries to justify the firebombing of Japan, and then watch Grave of the Fireflies.

I think that reveling in Japan's creativity and contributions to our culture and our world is better than dwelling on the awful things we did to one another. Not that that shouldn't be forgotten, but there is value in celebrating the good, too. Thus, I approve of your choice, despite having to work. :P
