Back on Friday I accompanied Irene while she was working overtime. This is not an unusual activity, as I have waited for her to finish her work for many times already.
However there is a little detail that made last Friday's overtime a little unusual: We did not go home on Friday. We went home on a Saturday instead.
Particularly, Saturday morning.
Irene was trying to finish a report and was trying to reconcile data. I offered to help, partly in the form of... I dunno, moral support? She had to finish the report as soon as she could, so I made sure that she wasn't staying there alone. I helped a little with actual work - I made a little data cleanup - and offered to bring in food (delivery normally took long, so I thought of just taking out food straight from the restaurant for faster speed.)
Perhaps at about 3am I was starting to take naps. I had to make sure I had some energy as I was determined to bring her home even if we would reach next morning's train operating hours, and I knew that she would insist that I just drop her off as usual at the train station. Well... especially considering that she was awake for more than 24 hours, I wouldn't allow her to go home on her own.
And true enough, we left the office at 0600H the day after.
As her way of thanks she treated me for breakfast. I wasn't entirely hungry, as my sleepiness was governing my body and I normally don't have an appetite when I'm sleepy, but she was actually really hungry - she finished her rice meal faster than my sandwich.
She was trying to wake both of us up by playing one of these Spiritual/Children's songs with actions. I will deem that she has poor hand-eye coordination... And she was laughing every time she made a mistake. Her laughter is so adorable, it's like the most beautiful song I have ever heard...
We didn't get to talk as much, as of course she was focused on doing her work. I am not sure if I will be able to pull off something like that again, but if the need arises, well... I will do it again.
