[Walking by like he's heading somewhere important which is very much not this man's booth. He pauses just in front, clearly for practical purposes alone.] Oi, you. Have you seen a man with bushy hair and a black coat go by here?

[He glances up as the boy calls out to him--without any greeting at all, one may add (unless oi counted)--and makes a thoughtful humming sound in his throat.]

Recently? Today? In general? I have only been here a short while, so I could only say if such a person passed by in the last hour or there abouts. Are you asking if such a person came by in the last hour?

[Completely nonplussed about this scowl, if it's the face that the young man wants to wear then it's none of Mana's business to comment on it.]

I have not seen someone matching that particular description thus far. You are supposing he came in this direction?

[Frown. He's starting to give the stranger a somewhat more careful suspicious look now. Yes, he's assuming that his General came in that direction, but he doesn't say so in as many words.] Or one who's tall with long red hair?

[He blinks at this question, his head cocking to one side curiously.] That may be more probable.

How tall? Taller than I, or merely taller than you?

['More probable' is a far more ambiguous answer than Kanda would like. He's feeling increasingly irritated.]

Che. How am I supposed to know? You're sat down.

Ah. You are quite right. [There is every possibility that he already knew as much, especially given how the vaguely amused expression on his face never changes. He does push himself to a stand though, and yes he is rather tall, especially with the hat.]

Well then, how about now?

[Kanda looks up at him, not in the least intimidated by his height, despite the fact that he's tall enough to make the boy feel quite small by comparison. Kanda hasn't been a small boy for quite some time, and he's not going to go back to being one now, no matter what.]

The same. [A pause, and then he volunteers,] His hat's not as tall as yours.

Hmm... I see. [And the demonstration over, he sits back down again, folding his hands together.]

What kind of hat does he have?

[Getting the distinct impression that the man is deliberately wasting his time. It makes Kanda impatient and testy. He just wants a damn answer].

It's got a wide brim. And his coat has gold on the shoulders and cuffs. Now have you seen him or not?

[Kanda's not inclined to trust people who play games, but he is good at recognizing them. Or rather, he is suspicious enough that he tends to catch games, sometimes even when they're not there. This time, though, he's pretty damn sure. This is all about asking the right questions, but in a way the answer is already clear: if he hasn't seen Cross Marian today, this man has seen him some time before.
