No, I wasn't spoiled. That was before the spoilers got really, really bad.
But before GoF came out, JKR had let us know that someone would die in it. Someone we cared about. So the question of who would die was constantly speculated on. IIRC, Hagrid was considered most likely.
I was thinking about it too as I was reading and as soon as Cho started dating Cedric Diggory, I knew Cedric was a goner. I think I knew because I know JKR's writing style too well. She loves to torture Harry in a way that will make him feel conflicted, like making a hated teacher save his life. So, the best way to make Harry a conflicted mess in GoF was to have his likable rival (in love and in the competition) die in a horrible way. That turned up the angst in Harry more than previous books and it is so Jo.
Ah, yes. Now I remember. There was once a time when I still thought RPattz was good-looking, before the Twilight promo pics with that ridiculous, Voldemort-esque makeup job came out.
I don't know why, but I really disliked the GoF movie. I think I only saw it twice, and when I did an HP movie marathon this summer, I skipped it all together. I think it's because I loved the book so freakin' much, I feel like this movie (especially the end) didn't do it justice. Curiously enough, the reverse happened with OotP: the book ticked me off but the movie was awesomecakes.

I knew about halfway through GoF that Cedric was going to die, but it didn't make that scene any easier to read.
GoF is still one of my top 3 favorites of the series. It fights with PoA for the #2 position.

*Surely you weren't spoiled? GoF came out before Al Gore invented the internet, right?!
