When can we have some more?

Okay, so judging from past experiences with waiting for HP films, we should get a few more pics (I'm thinking 4 or 5) from OotP in about a month. According to Leaky, we can expect the first trailer in November. And around that time we should get a teaser poster ( Read more... )

why haven't we heard who's directing HBP?

We've seen a couple of directors talk about wanting to do it so I think maybe they're in a position to be pretty choosey.

Wouldn't fandom just die if Kloves did it :p

[trouble-making, too] I don't know much about Kloves as a director, but it would be worth it just for the sheer tonnage of wank. XD

I liked Fabulous Baker Boys but haven't seen Flesh and Bone.

Shippers may have a bad rep for batshittery but in terms of sheer frequency, I don't think there's anything in fandom people are more consistently wanky about than the movies.

Third time's the charm.

I've seen a lot of rumours circulating about the potential directors for HBP. I do remember having seen Cuarón and Terry Gilliam mentioned.

I've always been interested in seeing Terry Gilliam's vision of HP. As I've mostly come to grips with the fact that no film version of HP could come close to compare to what I see in my head, I've been very interested in seeing the vision of directors who tend to use strong visual language. That's one of the reason why PoA is strong film though in many ways it doesn't have much in common with the source material. Terry Gilliam might take HBP into bizarre directions but his vision is guaranteed to be interesting.

I have to say, I'm not wild about the idea of Terry Gilliam directing HP. He's brilliant, but ... I can't shake the image of Brazil!HP, and that's just so wrong. :P

And I keep envisioning the angels playing trumpets out of their behinds on Holy Grail when I think of him, because he did all the drawrings. :D

I'm actually intrigued by something like that. Brazil!HP or Monty-Python-film-esque!HP would be something I'd pay good money to see as I know I won't get the Harry Potter film I want to see, the one in my head that is. But I do actually fear that Terry Gilliam has kind of lost his bite as The Brothers Grimm were very disappointing.

But in all honesty, I think the direction Mike Newell took GoF and what David Yates is reportedly doing with OotP, are the best ways to handle Harry Potter on screen. Therefore I suppose it might be great to get yet another solid British director.

I wonder if it's possible that they are having a hard time finding a director for HBP. I've seen several directors say that they'd love to tackle #7, so it's possible directors are turning down HBP with hopes of directing #7.

That could very well be. I also bet they're hoping to shoot 6 & 7 fairly close together, so they might be h oping to announce the two close together - or perhaps get the same director to do both(?). Of course, most of the movie 7 decisions have to wait for BOOK 7 :P, but they seem anxious to settle movie 7 stuff (like the cast, for example) now instead of later.

If they're hoping to shoot 6 and 7 close together, they may be thinking about going the extra step and shooting them at the same time. But again, Movie 7 stuff depends on Book 7.

I for one would love to have Mike Newell back. I think he did a great job with GoF, and I think he stayed true enough to the story to do HBP and whatever happens in 7 justice. And he's one of the directors who has said he'd love to come back for 7.

I think they are trying to settle the cast so quickly because they don't know how long it's going to take JKR to get Book 7 out, and they want the main actors committed to seeing the franchise through to the finish.

Mike Newell is good with romantic comedy, right? So he might be good for HBP.

I have a theory that David Yates is going to direct HBP. We know that while Cuaron and Newell were working on POA and GOF they were each offered the next movie in the series but turned it down because they both wanted to concentrate on just one movie at a time.

So, I think it is guaranteed that WB has, at least, offered the next movie to Yates. Maybe he is going to go for back to back movies like Columbus did. He will at least get 18 months between movies, where Columbus only got 12.

It just seemed bold of WB to announce a release date for HBP if they didn't already have someone in mind or tentatively lined up.

So, anyway that's my theory for what it's worth (probably nothing).
