Watched "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" and "Fool's Gold" over the weekend. I got very tired of Cage's character in "National Treasure." He goes on and on about how everyone should know everything about the people that founded this country. Hello? If we all did that, we wouldn't have enough brain power to do anything else. Well, I hope that we do have at least some people who do this -- think the Library of Congress -- since keeping a sense (and thus knowledge) of our ideals and principles is what keeps us from degenerating into just another third world country. Oh wait... that already seems to be happening lately.

I agree that the way they portray the character is highly annoying. But the inspiration for the character's interest in our national history and driving principles behind creating our government are extremely important. Lose those and we might well deserve to have an invading force on our borders... as a strong reminder of what happens if you aren't strong and cohesive as a nation.

I get the importance, but he comes way over the top, somewhere beyond fanaticism, trying to sell it. The first one opened my mind to learning more about history. This one closed it off.

Lose those and we might well deserve to have an invading force on our borders... as a strong reminder of what happens if you aren't strong and cohesive as a nation.

Gotta watch out for those Canadians... they're wily.

Just Hollywood's misguided way of trying to excite citizens. What they should have done was translate it to Sheep-speak, or have him wail on some guy with a steel chair while speaking. Then the sheep start paying attention. ;)
