Personally, I think this could be a segue to Lady Heather becoming a regular character... psychologist, or at least a consultant. I think Grissom turned to her because she's the only other person on the show who really understands him and won't put up with his bullshit. Nor he hers, honestly... the part where he says to her, "... and you're not my therapist."
As for comparing dungeons, that place really looked like more of a club. LH referred to it as an "amateur" club. Maybe that's why they had only one room under lock and key... odd. As for the instruments having trace, I *quite* agree. eww!
