I was really interested in his perspective as someone who'd been an outsider in the north. He really seemed to try to take in what was around him, at least.

It amazes me how Newfoundlanders have somehow put themselves right in the middle of all of this. "She's defending the seal hunt!" they say. I says she was respecting the people she was visiting by participating in their traditions. I don't think it has anything to do with the seal hunt. This is an unpopular opinion where I live.

I think it had far more to do with the Inuit than the seal hunt. Although I could see the GG getting stiff-necked if she thought she had to...

I think she'll get stiff-necked whenever she deems it proper and needed. And she's likely got a better sense of both conditions than I would.
