What I learned this summer is that I’m not really cut out to have even the tiniest of gardens.  My plan:  one potted tomato plant, one pot of mint (for mojitos), and an in-ground bed of mesclun lettuce.  The reality: lots of blossoms but only 5 tomatoes actually set, and only one of those grew to ripeness without being chewed upon by either bugs or ( Read more... )

Boil up some water and pour it over the spot the roots sunk in. It will kill everything in that area, but it doesn't sound like a big area, and grass can be replanted later. Much easier than digging up semi-frozen earth.

hmmm... the water will kill it? I'm not just using the water to make things more diggable? I wonder how deep it'll go... I'll look it up.

The boiling water will boil the roots and kill them.

If your ground is totally frozen you might need to do two applications or something.

Interesting.
Now I want to see something like BattleBots, only with plant species growing over an enclosed plot filmed in time-lapse.
