The various cost-of-living calculators on the web leave a bit to be desired.  I tell them I live in Chicago, and they have no concept of the difference between north-side lakeshore neighborhoods and the economically vastly different southwest immigrant neighborhood we're in.  Thus, when I try to compare my current environment to some other city, it ( Read more... )

Very interesting! I learned that Manchester has slightly less chance of hail than Ann Arbor, but Manchester is at a slightly higher risk of hurricanes.

East Pembroke, which is the closest post office to us, was not recognized by this calculator.

We're sort of in between Corfu and Basom, which is nothing more than a post office and an auction house and is not in the town of Pembroke where we live.

I learned that there's no risk of hail or damaging wind storms in Corfu, and that 25% of all African Americans in Basom live across the street from my parents.

I bet that if we'd lived in our apartment during the 2000 census, you'd be able to find us on the map, too. Even without our presence, our block was only 89% hispanic, as opposed to 95% the next block over.
I am wasting so much time with this gadget.
