My coworker is Team Jay. Yesterday, she came up to me and said I saw Conan's interview. "I've never seen him like that before, you know, not silly."
"Yeah..."
"I didn't know it hurt him that much. I thought he was okay because he got money and was able to take care of his people."
I don't get why the causual viewer assumes that monetary compensation will appease anything. It goes to show how naive (Americans) today. "Take the money and run" so to speak. How about taking something personal that affects you professionally and emotionally because you were invested in something you cared about for several decades of your adult life? It was the fucking Tonight Show with Conan Obrien! Why would he be O.K. with millions of dollars when he wanted the show. If he wanted the money, he would have left NBC 5 years ago.
It makes me see red when I read ppl comment or say "BUT HE GOT MONEY, SHUT UP CONAN BLA BLA" ignorance.
This is the main lesson that I have taken from Conan's experience, and it's the "moral of the story" that I hope many people can take from this situation. I want to do something with my life that contributes to society and is personally rewarding, and I know I would be inconsolable if I never had that opportunity. THIS is why I'm one of Conan's fans - he knows what life's true rewards are, he has unshakeable convictions, and his experiences (positive and negative) can and do inspire others who are hopeless in any way. He really is one of a kind. :)
I don't get that either. Either the people saying that are so materialistic that they can't conceive emotional attachments to things or else they just don't think celebrities are capable of that.
