Bad Idea #13478: The Electric Toothbrush

Jan 29, 2007 00:29

So the other day at the BX, I bought an electric toothbrush. Hey, I'd been wanting one. And with my recent wisdom teeth surgery, I figured it would help me to keep the deeper reaches of my mouth чистий-clean. I price-shopped, considered various models, and even made use of the "Try Me!" function on several of the units for sale. (Missing "Stop ( Read more... )

I use an electric toothbrush. >.> Only it's sonic and not one of the rotating ones. And actually? If you know how to use it, and use it properly, it's quite handy for keeping your teeth nice and shiny clean. The buzzing doesn't bother me, maybe because I'm used to it, and maybe because the buzzing means the sonic toothbrush is working as it should. Not buzzing is more disconcerting.

Yes, after a second or two of experimentation I figured out that my Oscillator of Doom was controlled by a simple rocker switch, but for some reason I was expecting a single push-on-release-off button, which led to the situation in the toothbrush aisle--feeling for an Off button under a layer of hard plastic is more difficult than it sounds.

Hmm, sounds like you were looking at the Rotadent models. Those are indeed the work of the devil. (Also, the switch gets bumped on way too easily in suitcases. *learned this the hard way several times; facepalms*) Sonicare brushes, on the other hand, are quite nice. ;)

I've used one of the brushes with the rotating heads once before, and I think they do their job quite well, although I haven't used one in a while because of the lack of handy batteries... As for the irritation, I've found that your basic toothbrush bristles are sometimes worse.

tyraarane's pearly, glimmery whites are enough to persuade me.

Missing "Stop Trying Me!" instructions resulted in one toothbrush being abandoned in the On position.

Comic gold.
