I had a freeze/hang severe enough that Ctrl-Shift-Esc didn't bring up the taskmanager and holding down the power button wouldn't kill power. Remove battery, pull AC adapter

Hmm. sounds like profile corruption. Which OS are you using? I might be able to walk you through finding your firefox profile and seeing if the old settings are salvageable.

OS = Windows XP. I found the profile directory, and poked around in there very briefly, so do tell.
